AGENT SPOTLIGHT: JENNIFER BARNES. What habits did you develop from this previous year of business?

In the past year, I have practiced a habit of listening, really listening, to understand what people are saying. I talk to a lot of people on a daily basis, and it can be challenging to just open up and listen.

Often I will make assumptions or interrupt with my own version of what I think they want/need.

Practicing a habit of listening intentionally has made me more intuitive about what people really need and helped me be more aware of the needs of my community as a whole.

Who do you look up to for inspiration or mentorship?

Kay & Glen Evans - She exemplifies the spirit of generosity and abundance and willingness to help people reach their full potential.

How do you keep your team or yourself motivated despite conflicts and obstacles?

Constantly express gratitude - make sure everyone knows that what they do matters. Everyone has gifts - do your best to help people find and utilize their gifts so that they can help others. Overall, we have to stay focused on the mission. All of the personalities and conflicts, and obstacles have to fall into the background so important decisions can be made based on the greater good.

What are the most important attributes of successful leaders today?

Achieving significant positive impact by building a community of people working together toward a common goal.

What are your current goals?

My goal is to create a community of connectedness with a like-minded group of people that can help everyone thrive. I want to help people prosper in my presence, model service for others, and show people that there is a special kind of joy in creating space for and helping one another. I want to teach people that this joy is not exclusive to places like the food pantry. This incredible joy of sharing, of giving, of living in service to one another can live in everyday moments. It can thrive within businesses, it can grow in schools, it can be anywhere and everywhere that we are because it exists within ourselves. My goal is to create this community and to foster its growth and its mission of kindness, acceptance, service, and love for the rest of my life.

What one thing makes you most proud?

Being in the moment with people who I have helped to improve their lives to the point where they could help others. Watching the work in action.

What’s the most important risk you took and why?

Life is risky, honey! It was a major risk to join KW back when it was in its infancy in Atlanta, and it was a risk joining forces with another agent to start a team in 2008 (you know, THE 2008). The truth is, when you surround yourself with people who support your vision and your goals, if you fail, you tend to fail in the right direction. And when you take a big risk and you come up short, there's always someone there to offer a hand to pick you back up.

One of my favorite quotes to this day: "If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together."

How do you continue to grow and develop as a leader?

I think it's being open to change no matter where you are in life. My identity for the past 30 years has been as a realtor, and I've been blessed with an abundance of success in that industry. I have honed skills and grown leaders and taught classes and helped so many beautiful families over a career filled with all of the highs and lows and joys and challenges that one could ask for. Stepping outside of that industry into the non-profit sector (a sector that I have no connection to) has stretched my capacity for growth to its limits. It has challenged me as a leader, and through the those challenges, I have grown my leadership in ways that I never could have expected. You have to stay open to what life may have in store for you, and be willing to swing when it's your turn at bat.

What three books can you recommend on leadership?

What advice can you give someone who is new and just getting started?

Take every class, get all of the education, find a coach, immerse yourself in the office culture, and take any experience that comes your way. Show houses for other agents, preview listings (with permission, of course), shadow open houses, and find ways to be on the scene and in the industry as much as possible. Then go out and DO IT!

Raegan Thorp

Raegan Thorp is the owner of Raegan Thorp Real Estate Group, a residential real estate top producer for Keller Williams Peachtree Road, and has been in the real estate business for 7 years. Today she is putting her skills to use every day within her current role as Realtor for her clients. This last year proved to be a tough one, but when faced with adversity and a shifting market, Raegan did not shy away from the challenge. From this experience, Raegan learned to push through no matter what obstacle you may face. She shares this experience and insight with her team, keeping them and herself motivated by always focusing on the positive and things that you can control. This leans into her thoughts of what makes a successful leader. A successful leader tunes into their teammates and helps them achieve their goals. Raegan has set high goals for her team this year of 100 transactions, 2 additional team members, a pool at home, & more family time!

Creating this unlimited potential and setting an impactful example for her son are the things that make Raegan most proud. The road to success is not always easy, for Raegan, her biggest risk began with her decision to start in real estate.

Through this experience, she learned to trust in God even more, to guide her to her goals. Raegan is constantly growing and developing as a leader by always looking for someone who is just ahead of her to learn from so that she can grow.

The biggest challenge that she faces is rejection, but by treating people how she wants to be treated and understanding that everyone goes through challenges, and the goal is to be there to support people when they need it, Raegan overcomes her challenges.

Etan Levine & Associates Etan Levine is the rainmaker of Etan Levine & Associates, the top producing team at Keller Williams Peachtree Road. Etan’s team consists of two main members, Etan Levine & Jenna Measroch, plus their admin team. During the course of the previous year, business owners had to learn how to pivot their business to cope with a shifting market and pandemic. This did not deter Etan. When asked what habits he developed from this interesting business year, Etan responded, “wearing a mask all the time.” Jokingly, but also in all seriousness. Real Estate agents had to learn how to manage their same business practices while adopting new standards to their systems this past year. Etan emphasized that when looking for mentorship, he looks up to and learns from other agents in the field that he respects, as well as industry leaders from other industries.

Etan manages to keep his team and himself motivated by focusing on every transaction that is important to the client. Even when a transaction proves to be difficult, Etan states, “there is always a way to figure it out.” When asked what advice he would give to someone new in the real estate industry, the best advice Etan gives to those who are just starting out is to keep it simple! “ Be consistent, and preview or show a ton of homes, while practicing safe and proper social distancing!”

Madalyn: Andy Stanley, Gary Keller, my Maps coach, my Performance You coach, certain authors/books Nina: My coach, Kate Patulski.

How do you keep your team or yourself motivated despite conflicts and obstacles?

Madalyn: constant communication, education, and shifting (and some humor) Nina: Keep them on track, focused, and put everything into perspective.

Focus on the lead measures or action items. If you do the lead measures, the results will come.

What are the most important attributes of successful leaders today?

Madalyn: Lead by example, supportive, available, showing you care Nina: Listen, empower, lead, be approachable, be coachable, and have a vision.

What are your current goals?

Madalyn: 174 closed transactions as a team, personally save money and grow market share Nina: My personal goal is to help all of our team members succeed and hit or exceed their goals so they can build a better business and a better life for their families.

What’s the most important risk you took and why?

Madalyn: Building a team - it's a lot of expense and time and giving up some of what you have worked for Nina: Created a lot of change in our organization and we still managed to do very well and move forward.

What three books can you recommend on leadership?

Madalyn: Atomic Habits, Who Moved My Cheese and I think it's called FOR Nina: Atomic Habits by James Clear. That's it, you don't need another. Just kidding. I also really liked Dare to Lead by Brene Brown and Start with Why by Simon Sinek.

What is the biggest challenge you’ve faced and how did you overcome it?

Madalyn: Saying no and following a schedule - not sure I have overcome it but sometimes you are forced to for a better life.

Nina: Let's just say in one year I went from having absolute zero money, to having the best year I have ever had.

What advice can you give someone who is new and just getting started?

Madalyn: Work hard, do everything, you have to learn by doing. All the classes and books are not actually doing it. Follow what others have done, don't recreate the wheel. Be kind, don't be a know it all, be a good listener, and ask for help!

Nina: Learn to do it the right way first. Take the steps and classes KW offers to help create and build your business from launch to production and beyond. Learn to be okay with the boring stuff as Gary Keller would say. Make the calls, write the notes, do all the action items, and the business will come. And pay attention to your habits. Your habits define your success, so if you start with good habits from the beginning, you can choose where to put more of your energy.

Robert: All of the people who work and have worked for Atlanta Land Group and have contributed to our continued success in the Commercial Real Estate industry.

Jay: My family.

What’s the most important risk you took and why?

Robert: Being an entrepreneur and not an employee, because I was confident in my abilities to generate a good living and trusting myself in the process.

Jay: Transitioning into Real Estate in 1998. Before I was in a safe corporate path and position.

How do you continue to grow and develop as a leader?

Robert: By understanding the ever-changing business environment and adapting as quickly as possible.

Jay: Understand the 5 levels of leadership. Knowledge that there are plenty of capable people ready to step up. Lead, follow or get out of the way.

What three books can you recommend on leadership?

Robert: Making it in Real Estate by John McNellis, Principles by Ray Dalio, and How To Win Friends & Influence People by Dale Carnegie Jay: Unbroken by Laura Hillenbrand, Island of Fire by Jason Mark, Malcolm X by Alex Haley

What is the biggest challenge you’ve faced and how did you overcome it?

Robert: Moving from a large corporation to creating a boutique commercial land firm.

Jay: The 2008 real estate crash. I overcame it with a positive outlook, perseverance, and continued effort, despite the circumstances.

What advice can you give someone who is new and just getting started?

Robert: Proper preparation prevents poor performance.

Jay: Whether you can nor can not, you are right. Believe in yourself and make sure that those around you believe in you. Self doubt and self "ism" is cheaply bought.

Licensed 6/21/1991.

I was working in the wholesale

apparel industry and not happy.

I had a value disconnect

with the owners of my company, because I did not feel like they were treating our clients right.

"doing the right thing" as we like to say here at KW. too young to dread going to work in the morning.

How has Real Estate changed your life?

I am passionate about all things "home", so real estate has allowed me to work in that passion daily.

What successes have you had?

My greatest success has been building a 98% referral business that allowed me the time and freedom to care for my precious mother in the final years of her life.

It

has always been my focus to provide such an extraordinary experience for my clients that I earn the right to receive their referrals.

My mother lived with me

until her passing at age 93, and it was such a blessing for new business to flow in when my priority was her and my time for work was limited.

What obstacle's have you overcome?

With a 30 year career, I have experienced many different real estate markets!

I like to say, "sometimes you are the

June 2020 because real estate has always been my passion. I have 24 rental properties and 2 development projects in-process before becoming an agent.

How has Real Estate changed your life?

Real Estate has allowed me to build wealth, and I love dealing with people. Even the difficult ones.

What successes have you had?

I capped after only 2 listings!

What obstacle's have you overcome?

My fear of cold calling people.

When did you start in Real Estate and why?

I started in Real Estate in January 2020. I changed careers because my previous job was a dead-end job.

I actually closed 11 homes since June 30, 2020, overcoming low appraisals, by saving deals & getting clients $11,000 more than appraisal and helping new home buys with poor credit be able to purchase.

What obstacle's have you overcome * Low appraisals, starting during COVID, being insecure, and lacking confidence in myself.
