I have found that it can be as simple as asking, "how are you doing" and really meaning it and listening to the answer. I believe that pouring into others is the most honorable part of my day and I wake up each day energized to do just that. My Mom and Dad taught me at a young age to never assume I know the path someone is walking. Asking questions, listening intently, and understanding when to lend a shoulder to cry on or celebrate a win is what makes me happy.

AGENT SPOTLIGHT: PAUL ZACHOS. Paul Zachos is our resident funny guy in the office, but when it comes to his business he is serious about getting the best deal for his clients. Paul Zachos was born in Decatur, GA & graduated from Valdosta State University, and received a BBA Degree in Marketing. In 2000, Paul founded Hillcrest Homebuilders through which he has built over 200 homes ranging in sales price from $300,000 to $1.6 Million. Many of Paul’s custom award-winning homes were built for professional athletes, executives, restaurant owners, pilots, and doctors to name a few. Paul was chosen as one of the nine accomplished custom builders in the 2007 Street of Dreams Home Tour-Atlanta.

Paul is a licensed contractor in the State of Georgia and continues to build and remodel residential and commercial projects. His extensive construction experience gives him an advantage in any real estate transaction.

Paul joined Keller Williams in 2010 and earned a spot in the top 20% for the past 6 years of one of the highest producing Keller Williams offices in the south. Paul also assists his colleagues with evaluating and repairing homes based on inspection reports of third parties. This service has helped other realtors with selling homes quickly and at the highest price possible. Paul is a member of the Atlanta Board of Realtors, Prior President of the Westside Homebuilders Association, Co-Founder of Faith in Action (gafaithinaction.com). He serves on the Board of Directors for the Douglas County Chamber, serves on the Board of Directors for Youth Villages, and serves on the Church Leadership Council of the First United Methodist Church. Paul is a past Construction Manager for the Douglas County Disaster Recovery Committee and served on the Board of Directors for the Douglas County Homeless Shelters.

Who do you look up to for inspiration or mentorship?

For ministry, Beau McClain. Robben Mathews (our coach) and many of the agents in our office who have succeeded at a high level.

How do you keep your team or yourself motivated despite conflicts and obstacles?

The problem won't go away by ignoring it, so the sooner you confront it, the sooner you can get a resolution and move through it.

Everything in life is a challenge and difficult, but how you handle it makes the difference. It doesn't matter what your job is, you're going to be stressed. "Being Comfortable, Being Uncomfortable" is commonplace in today's world. We have to step back and remember why we are working and be grateful for all of our blessings.

Coaching and getting around positive people helps.

What are your current goals? $18 Million in Sales Volume in 2021, Flip 5 Rehab Projects in 2021, Restructure our business to do what we like to do instead of what we have to do.

What one thing makes you most proud?

My immediate family, which is my wife and my son.

What’s the most important risk you took and why?

Creating my own company as a home builder because I knew that I was creating wealth for other people, not just for myself.

How do you continue to grow and develop as a leader?

I didn't really plan to become a leader. As you grow in your business it just comes naturally, and you feel obligated to help others around you grow.

What book can you recommend on leadership?

Rudy Giuliani, Leadership - the book he wrote after 9/11.

Coaching has completely transformed my career. KWPR has always done a great job placing me in the hands of really great mentors/coaches. The first coach I had was John Thompson. He challenged me to think BIG and look beyond my limited knowledge of what tools/systems I "thought" I knew, needed, and personally possessed to grow my business.

He supplied me with scripts and best practices that completely transformed my business.

Currently, I am coaching with KWPR Team Leader, Dori Hicks, and to say she revived my career after a stressful and one of my most challenging years I've had in real estate is an understatement. She helped me rediscover MY BIG WHY! Dori was and continues to be an invaluable asset to me personally and professionally. Not only did she coach me in such a manner that prove to have very tangible outcomes, by helping and coaching me to more than triple my business volume and overall GCI in less than a year of coaching with her, Dori genuinely cares about me, my family and my personal and professional goals and it truly resonate in every coaching session with her. Brennan Ballard

Brennan Ballard hails originally from West Virginia and is a graduate of Marshall University. In the Fall of 2012, Brennan moved to Atlanta, Ga, following a path the eventually lead him into real estate in October 2016. There have been many mentors and inspirations in Brennan’s life starting with his parents playing a pivotal role in his mentality and the way he approached things in his life. Another inspirational person in his life is David Goggins, as he looks up to his mentality towards life. Brennan is no stranger to obstacles in his life and those obstacles help him put everything in perspective. He quotes “I realize small items can seem large at a moment's notice but it's all relative to what we want to compare it to. It helps me stay calm through obstacles, which helps other people stay calm and obstacles usually get overcame when you approach it this way.”

Being in the first year of his business, he started his year with a goal of $700k in volume per month. He is a numbers-based person and while this number helped him achieve his personal goals, but as he achieves his goals, he reevaluated his goal and set a new goal to hit $1M or more in volume per month. There are a lot of proud moments in Brennan’s life. The thing that makes him most proud is the care and dedication he has for his clients. Brennan’s business is largely referral-based placing an emphasis on his customer’s experience. He would never want his clients to feel rushed, instead he wants his clients to make a decision that aligns with the goals they communicate.

How do you continue to grow and develop as a leader?

I love to learn about new things. Real estate is continually changing and therefore you always want to be in the know of what's going on. I love music but I listen to tons of Podcasts while driving all over Atlanta for clients. It's an easy and great way for me to continue to grow my knowledge.

What advice can you give someone who is new and just getting started?

When working with prospective clients, come from a sense of care and genuineness to help. Find what you like and what you have a natural gift for and lean into that. You don't necessarily have to make your weakest aspect a strength, instead, take strength and make it a game-changer in your business.

What are your current goals?

To be an MREA! To have vacation rental properties on a beach somewhere.

When we are given referrals from friends and clients. It shows we are worthy.

What’s the most important risk you took and why?

Being in careers that no longer gave us joy. Leaving was hard, but it paid off considerably.

How do you continue to grow and develop as a leader?

We read and listen to books on improvement and growth both personally and for business. Also, Attending KW classes and meetings is essential to us.

No business is without its risks, and when entering a commission-only based career a major element is a risk. Steve was able to face the risk of entering a commission only based career and thrive in that field due to his passion to provide for his family, college education for his children, develop a retirement plan, set his own schedule, all while being able to enjoy the plentiful fruits of his labors. Steve continues to grow and develop as a leader by serving his community in many different ways.

He serves as the Director of the Southeast Region Commercial Leadership Council, advising 230 Commercial agents in GA, TN, and AL. There's rarely a day that goes by that he fail to learn something new, helpful, interesting about his industry.

What advice can you give someone who is new and just getting started?

This is NOT an easy business, but the rewards can be plentiful! Do not think of this career as a "Need a Deal Now, then Move on" - you must consider that every relationship can be a life-long client, source of referral business, and best of all - when they become close friends.

Take the long-term perspective, and "Laissez les bon temps Roulez"!

What do you love most about what you do?

The biggest joy in my work is helping people achieve their dreams, particularly when it seems like those dreams are unattainable or there are too many obstacles to accomplish them.

Any advice to young women who want to succeed in the workplace?

Two pieces of advice; find a mentor – someone who is in a position or has achieved something that you admire – and lean on them for guidance and support.

Secondly – BELIEVE in yourself. As a young woman, there will never be a shortage of people defining your professional limits or ceiling, and you have to be able to block out people who define those boundaries on the basis of your appearance.

What is the best career advice you’ve ever received?

Never stop learning. Whether you are 20, 40 or60, there is always something to learn. A colleague of mine once told me, “When you are PhD in something, it probably means you are in Kindergarten in something else.”

What do you think is the key to success in a role like yours?

Find out what the needs are of your customer –don’t make it about yourself, and make sure your work, the path you guide your customer on, and what you are seeking is based on what they want and need.

What advice would you give to women in your field?

Don’t be afraid of the unknowns, or where you are today.

Start with your end goal or vision in mind, and work backward. If you want your own company or team, seek a mentor in your field who's done that, learn from what they have done to accomplish your goals.

Nadege Smith When did you start in Real Estate and why?

I started in Real Estate in January 2020. I changed careers because my previous job was a dead-end job. As my daughter was accepted into the University of Georgia, I wanted her to graduate and not have any student loan debt. So, I started real estate to be able to provide better for my family.

How has Real Estate changed your life?

By being so successful in my first year (with COVID), has given me the confidence that I never had. I now know that I can do anything I desire with GOD's grace, my determination, hard work, and most importantly my husband and daughter backing me.

What successes have you had?

I actually closed 11 homes since June 30, 2020, overcoming low appraisals, by saving deals & getting clients $11,000 more than appraisal and helping new home buys with poor credit be able to purchase.

What obstacles have you overcome Low appraisals, starting during COVID, being insecure and lacking confidence in myself.

What successes have you had?

My biggest success was being able to leave my 9-5 day job to pursue real estate full-time last year!

What obstacles have you overcome My biggest obstacle that I’ve overcome would be “talking to people”. I’ve always been a sociable person but when I had to ask for their business, I was like “OH NO!”. I would often hope and pray that no one would answer when I had to cold call but....with experience and the help of many MANY trainings, I’ve learned that it’s much easier to just have a conversation with people.

FAMILY! I have two beautiful children, Santana Smith & Sariyah Smith, whom I love dearly! Since being in real estate, I have been able to attend all of their extracurricular activities and nothing excites me more than to see them happy!
