“Just think of the memories we will make here!” Those were the words our daughter said when we decided to purchase this home and oh what wonderful memories we have made! This home was designed to make memories, entertain and live a life of ease in beautiful surroundings. So many wonderful times that flow with elegance and grace make up our memories. We have always felt that fireplaces bring home into a house so the first thing we did was to add two fireplaces. First, had a fireplace installed in the master bath. There is nothing like a fire to take the chill out of the morning air when you are getting ready or soaking in the tub. Next, we put one in the family room. We love reading a book or watching TV by the fire in the evenings. The study off the master bedroom was just an empty room. We acquired some antique doors and a table that we had stripped to use in the building of custom cabinetry in this amazing space overlooking the backyard. Some was used upstairs to build the barn doors for the theater, cabinetry in the bar area and doors for the master bath. Next, was the addition of a large fountain surrounded by a rose garden at the front entrance to create a welcoming, peaceful entrance. Hospitality is an art that creates an inviting entrance to any home. The soothing sound of water flowing signals to the visitor that they are welcome. Open the double doors and the view of the backyard is breathtaking especially when the magnolias, azaleas and roses are in bloom. This large yard is an oasis in the middle of Houston but offers easy access to shopping, restaurants and downtown yet you feel like you are in the country. One of our first entertaining times was a neighborhood wine and cheese get together. Stablewood neighbors have always been social. The wine and cheese parties have been great facilitators to meet and stay connected. In fact, the day we moved in we were greeted at our front door by the welcoming committee saying, “We are thrilled that you moved to Stablewood where we are like a little village. We hope that by the end of the year, you know all your neighbors and call them friends.” We’ve found that to be true. We hosted the annual Stablewood Christmas party and several other functions. The flow of this home comfortably entertains large and small groups. We’ve also enjoyed the many neighborhood events such as a dog parade, Fall gatherings on the esplanade, food truck events and just visiting with neighbors while walking our dogs. A favorite memory was the Gender Reveal of our grandson. We had a big group here to celebrate as our son-in-law hit a golf ball that exploded blue smoke in the backyard signaling a baby boy was on his way. It’s so nice to have a large, secluded yard where this is possible. With the adoption of a child, our home and backyard transformed into a breathtaking event. We held a personal commitment time on the back steps leading to the yard filled with white chairs, flowers, candles and loved ones
joining in the celebration. Food was served inside and out on catered tables throughout the back yard providing a memorable event that touched our hearts forever. Then, Hurricane Harvey came. Although we were high and dry with a full house generator, one of our children’s home was flooded. This house became a comfortable living space for us on the first floor and our daughter, husband and two small children on the second floor for almost a year. One of their favorite parts was having three private balconies to enjoy. Due to comfort with livability space and layout, it was a tender year of memories we will always cherish. The spacious game room upstairs is a blank canvas. We tossed around several ideas to transform this generous room considering everything from an entertainment area with games, pool table, golf simulator or quarters for housekeeper. With six grandchildren under the age of six, we landed on the idea of a big toy playroom where they could run, jump and play with toys out of sight from the living area downstairs. It’s been a big hit! “Ahhhh... moments” are what have been the heartbeat of our time in
appliances was top on our priority list. Cooking on Wolfe appliances, especially our favorite, the convection steam oven has been amazing. It’s the one appliance we can’t do without because of it’s multi-function...the least of which is reheating anything to the quality of first served. The double griddle is in constant use whether we are sautéing veggies, browning or making pancakes. We’ve had caterers set up in the garage and serve seamlessly to our guests. What we have used as temperature controlled seasonal storage was used as a work out space by the previous owner. The versatility of this space leaves you with many options to decide how best you will use it. We like to decorate for Christmas so this was a wonderful place to store our still decorated tree until we roll it back ready to go into the house for the next year. One of the biggest surprises has been the beautiful, circular bar between the living and dining room. It has become one of our most used spaces! One day it’s a coffee and tea bar for a ladies luncheon. Next, it’s a hub for wine and cheese parties. For family dinners, it is often where we serve the iced tea. Whatever we are doing, this circular space to brings people together. Paired near the bar is a large wine cellar. The entrance showcases personally designed, hand-made grape vine sconces to coordinate with the inside hand-made door handles. We literally stood over the artist as he created these to be sure they were perfect. It’s always fun to take guests into the cellar to pick out what they would like to drink for the evening.

We live on the first floor but the second floor has become a haven for guests. Even though we are only two, we still want our space. A study for each of us and living spaces where we can spread out are a must. While we can seat a large group for dining outside, we still have a private place on the veranda for just the two of us to dine. This versatility was what drew us to this home. It works comfortably no matter how many people live here. We have loved every minute of our season in this incredible oasis and are grateful for the memories we have made; however, our season has come to an end. Now is the time for a new owner and it is our hope that you will make even more amazing memories and enjoy your time in this wonderful home with it’s marvelous surroundings.
