VIADUCT MARKETSPACE GLASSBLOWING & LAMPWORKING STUDIOS The proposal’s aim was to design a public building that will host a mix of activities including creative workspaces and market facilities as well as various public spaces: food and beverage services, public gardens, and performance venue. It was supposed to be a vertical public space, accessible to all visitors, day or night. The goal was to create a building that will be a shared facility, encouraging the encounter of various populations living and working close to one another, yet rarely meeting. From site analysis, I found out that in the past on the site there was a manufacture producing globe lamps. That gave me an idea to focus on art fields related to glass.
ARTS AND CRAFTS SCHOOL & ARTIST-IN RESIDENCE COMPLEX The main objective of the design was to design an Arts and Crafts School & Artist-in-Residence Complex. The building was designed to host multiple functions related to the teaching and practicing of arts and crafts, as well as local and international artistic activity. The goal was to link novel formal & conceptual ideas of spatial multiplicities, intertwining geometries, curvilinear & irregular forms, and playful atmospheres with the school & residential program. The project began by making a series of casting and form-finding experiments. The intention was to cast the void, the in-between space of important place for me, and then produce a set of exploratory drawings enabled me to engage in the final design. The shape of the cast and further experiments gave me an idea about the sculptural approach to building design.
LIGHT CELEBRATION PROJECT - PIER TECHNICAL ANALYSIS The existing pier is a steel frame lightweight construction system. The pier is a raised structure, which is a pontoon structure. It is supported by a dolphin structure and pier foundations. There is not only one kind of pier, and there is a lot of ways of constructing them. A floating pier is a deck structure connected to land via access ramps. The deck structure is made from polystyrene floats in the bottom, truss frame, wood or metal deck, and in the top concrete.
BRIDGE LAB TEST Analysis of the reasons for failure: The bridge was made of balsa wood with a thickness of 2 mm. It was a beam bridge, which consisted of two pillars 70 mm x 40 mm x 40 mm and a span located on pillars built of two beams with extrusions 650 mm x 10 mm x 2 mm connected with each other by a lattice, which aims to give the stiffness of the bridge and at the same time the foundation for the road. The construction broke because small pieces of wood arranged in a lattice were not exactly glued to the sides of the span, but only strengthened its top. It can be noticed by looking at the photo of the destroyed bridge, where it can be seen that the top of the bridge remained intact, while the sides of the bridge broke.
Suggestions for improving the design: In order to give a higher bearing capacity to the bridge, without changing the type of the bridge and drastically increasing the bridge’s weight, it would be necessary to change the dimensions of beams connecting the two pillars from 10 mm height by 15 mm height and add a third beam in the middle of the previous two.
