THE GOAL OF THIS PROJECT WAS TO DESIGN A VENDOR STALL FOR A MIXOLOGIST TO DISPLAY, SERVE, MIX, SHELTER, AND SOCIALIZE. EACH OF THESE FUNCTIONS WERE ACCOMPLISHED BY CREATING A STALL THAT COMBINED MODULARITY AND TRANSPARENCY. THE STALL ITSELF WAS DERIVED FROM A CUBE FORM. THE ORIGINAL CUBE FORM WAS DIVIDED INTO SMALLER CUBES WHICH WERE EXTRACTED FROM THE ORIGINAL TO CREATE THE RESULTING VENDOR STALL. THE COLOR OF THE CONNECTION PIECES DIRECTLY CORRELATES TO THE FUNCTION OR USE OF THAT AREA OF THE STALL.

THE GOAL OF THIS PROJECT WAS TO DESIGN A MARKET HALL IN BENSON, NEBRASKA THAT PROVIDES A SPACE TO GATHER, SHOP, EAT, MEET, WORK, AND PLAY. THE PROGRAM OF THE BUILDING PROVIDES SPACES FOR PERMANENT, TEMPORARY, AND POP-UP BUSINESSES TO TAKE ROOT IN THE COMMUNITY. THIS EVER-CHANGING ATMOSPHERE ENGAGES PREVIOUS CUSTOMERS AND INVITES NEW CUSTOMERS TO BECOME INTERESTED IN THE SPACE. MODULARITY AND TRANSPARENCY CONTINUE FROM THE INDIVIDUAL VENDOR STALL INTO THE FULL FORM OF THE BUILDING.

THE GOAL OF THIS PROJECT WAS TO TAKE EXISTING FORMS AND TURN THEM INTO AN ENTIRELY NEW STRUCTURE. FORMS FROM THE NEBRASKA STATE CAPITOL WERE MEASURED, ANALYZED, AND MODIFIED TO CREATE OBJECTS. THESE OBJECTS WERE COMBINED TOGETHER AND USED TO FORM A NEW BUILDING TO HOLD EXHIBITIONS AND GALLERY SPACES. LARGE SCALE MODELS WERE CREATED AND PHOTOGRAPHED TO SHOW THE EXPERIENCE OF THE SPACES.

THE GOAL OF THIS PROJECT WAS TO DESIGN A CHILDREN’S THEATER LOCATED IN DOWNTOWN LINCOLN. INVOLVEMENT OF THE COMMUNITY AND TRANSPARENCY OF THIS PROJECT WERE VERY IMPORTANT AS WELL AS ENGAGING PEDESTRIANS AROUND THE SITE.

THE GOAL OF THIS PROJECT WAS TO DESIGN AN OUTDOOR CLASSROOM AREA FOR KIDS TO BE IMMERSED IN THEIR SURROUNDINGS. THIS BUILDING ACCOMPLISHES THE GOAL BY BEING COMPLETELY OPEN ON ALL FOUR SIDES. THE SELECTIVE TRANSPARENCY AND ARRANGEMENT OF THE PANELS ALLOW FOR THE CASTING OF LIGHT AND SHADOW ONTO THE GROUND.

THIS BUILDING CONTAINS ADMINISTRATION, CLASSROOMS, WORKSHOPS, ART SPACES, COLLABORATION SPACES, A THEATER, AND A STUDENT RUN CAFE. ALL OF THESE PROGRAMS FIT WITHIN A BUILDING WITH FULL ADA COMPLIANCE AND HIGH LEVELS OF PRIVACY AND SECURITY.

THE MASSING OF OUR BUILDING STARTED AS A FULL TWO-STORY BLOCK SET BACK FROM THE LOT LINES TO ALLOW FOR OUTDOOR PROGRAMS.
THE MAIN SLICE IN OUR BUILDING IS MEANT TO SEPARATE PROGRAMS AND ALLOW FOR CIRCULATION TO CONTINUE THROUGH THE SITE. THE SECONDARY SPLIT AT THE VERY NORTH END OF THE BUILDING ALSO ALLOWS FOR CIRCULATION TO CONTINUE ON THAT END OF THE SITE.
MASS SPLIT SCALE
THE SCALE OF OUR BUILDING CHANGED DURING THE DEVELOPMENT PHASE TO ALLOW THE SOUTH BUILIDNG TO HAVE ONE FLOOR AND THE NORTH TO HAVE TWO FLOORS. THE HEIGHT OF THE SIDES OF THE BUILDING CORRESPOND TO PUBLIC AND PRIVATE AREAS AS WELL AS PROGRAM SPECIFIC HEIGHT REQUIREMENTS. THIS ALLOWS FOR DOUBLE HEIGHT ROOMS WHERE NECESSARY.
PERFORATE CAP EMPHASIZE
THE PERFORATION OF OUR BUILDING COMES FROM NEEDING MORE LIGHT TO PENETRATE INTO THE CENTER AREAS OF THE BUILDINGS. THE NORTH-MOST PERFORATION BECOMES AN OUTDOOR COURYARD WHILE THE REST BECOME SKYLIGHTS. THE PERFORATION ADJACENT TO THE SLICE ALLOWS FOR ADDED INTEREST ON BOTH THE INTERIOR AND EXTERIOR, AND INCREASED NATURAL LIGHT. THE CAP OF OUR BUILDING EXTENDS BEYOND THE EDGES OF THE EXTERIOR WALLS AND RISES ABOVE THE SKYLIGHTS TO SOFTEN THE DIRECT SUNLIGHT. THE SLANT OF THE ROOF ALLOWS WATER TO FLOW OFF OF THE BUILDING EFFICIENTLY.
IN ORDER TO EMPHASIZE THE SLICE IN OUR BUILDING, WE PLACED FINS ON THE MOST PUBLIC SIDE ANGLED THE SAME AS THE SLICE THROUGH THE BUILDING THEY ARE ON. THESE FINS INCORPORATE ADDED NATURAL LIGHT WHILE INCREASING PRIVACY.

THE GOAL OF THIS PROJECT WAS TO RENOVATE THE ART CHAPEL IN ORDER TO IMPROVE THE CONDITIONS OF THE BUILDING. PROGRAMS INSIDE THE BUILDING ARE ART GALLERY, ART TEACHING SPACE, AND ART MAKING SPACE. THE FRONT DOOR, WINDOWS, BATHROOM, CABINETRY, AND FURNITURE WERE THE MAIN FOCUS OF THE RENOVATION PROJECT. MY PRIMARY TASK WAS TO DESIGN AND BUILD CUSTOM STEEL WINDOWS. LEARNING HOW TO DESIGN THE FRAME, WELD, GRIND METAL, AND COMMUNICATE WITH MULTIPLE OUTSIDE SOURCES FOR PARTS, POWDER COATING, AND WINDOW INSTALLATION WERE ALL PART OF THE PROCESS.
