Oakview Perkin Triple R Simmental Bull Sale 2021

I would like to start off by thanking Todd & Danna Collins of Oakview Simmentals for offering to host the bull sale. This is a fairly big change to the infrastructure of the original sale format and a very generous move. So now let’s talk about their bulls! This a big pen, size wise & relative to the Simmental breed in Manitoba. In this very impressive pen, quality sire groups made from exclusive semen packages and the strong Oakview bull battery are apparent. They have done a great job at Oakview on the their Fullblood herd which has a base from some great cows in the breed, such as “Pixie” and “Fern”. Cow families and top herdbulls blended within from polled and horned genetics summarizes the Oakview Fullblood herd. The Red Simmental group I believe are the strongest ever from Oakview. There are some great brother-acts with a ton of quality.

I sincerely admire this young family for so many of their virtues, they work hard and are as congenial as they come to mention a couple.

The Perkin Land & Cattle crew, as the name would suggest, are large mixed farmers that shoot to do the best job whether raising the next set of calves or the next crop to harvest. Relative to this sale, are the cattle of course! They study the Black & Red Simmental genetics intensely and keep an open mind as to how they can constantly improve themselves. They do a nice job developing their bulls, never overdone, just right!

I always like the Triple R Cattle! They have a real nice bullpen again this year. The “Brooks” sons are easy to find. Not to wander off the point, but I also want to give “kudos” to the gang @ Triple R for the fantastic set of bred heifers they sold at the Pembina Triangle sale last November. The Triple R cattle are gaining a lot of momentum on reputation for cattle that always work for their new owners.

Delivery

• Delivery will be made at sellers earliest convenience working to get bulls to your yard within MB, to central points within Canada and to the nearest USA border crossing.

• Bulls can be wintered free to charge until April 1. After April 1, there will be a charge of $3/day. Bulls returned to the farm can be picked up at the buyer’s convenience.

• Bulls that are wintered by the consignors must be insured by the purchaser.

Oakview Simmentals, Triple R Simmentals and Perkin Land & Cattle Co. reserve the right to collect semen on any bull sold through this sale for in herd use only. This semen will be collected at the buyers convenience and seller's expense.

Our sales are conducted in Canadian funds.

The US exchange rate will be available at the settlement desk. Upon successful purchase of an animal, the consignors will assist with the necessary documentation, health exams, brokerage and US custom charges necessary to export your animal to the US. An additional fee of $300 USD per animal will be charged for this service, and is due at time of settlement. Trucking is not included in this amount.

First of all, we would like to thank Oakview Simmentals for taking on the momentous task of hosting the sale - we appreciate the people we partner with in the sale, 3 groups with a common goal.

We decided that with moving the sale to the east we should give our customers a designated day to view them at our farm. We have decided to host an open house on February 28, from 2-5pm. The bulls will be on display in their working clothes and we look forward to visiting with many of you at the farm. All attendees will be entered into a draw for a $500 sale credit to be used on any PLCC bull at the sale.

The bull pen consists of groups of bulls from our herdsires as well as a group from IPU Bentley, who is a black baldy bull that we felt would really complement our genetics. At 2 months of age, the calves really blew us away.

Our newest herdsire, Lethal Dose, is a dark red son of Wheatland Kill Switch. His calves have lots of performance, they’re good haired and the right kind of style we love. A highlight will be his son, PERKS Potent 309H, who would be a notable bull at any sale.

Homo Polled, Non diluter When we are sourcing herd bulls, it is hard to find everything you want in a herd sire. When we came across Lethal Dose, he checks almost every box. We’ve both commented how much this son reminds us of his sire. This bull is chock full of muscle, he’s deep bodied and soft made, has a heck of a hind quarter and a presence that makes you stop and look at him every time. We have been excited about this fella for quite some time and have watched him outpace his contemporaries from mid-summer on. His adjusted yearling weight is at the top of the pen and he’s gained 4.5 lbs/day since weaning.

He’s a heavy haired bull that has that deep red color that we all want in our offspring. His dam is a favorite cow that goes back to the great CG Opal 652S cow and she also has a shot of the Doll family for some extra maternal. Her udder is well attached and very square.

This is her third bull to make the bull pen and I can’t wait to see what her next son looks like. We are excited to use this bull in our program this spring.

Homo Polled, Non diluter This ET son of Captain Blaze is the red son that I have been waiting for. His 680S dam was flushed to Blaze a few years back and the first go around we got 8 black heifers and 1 black bull, but this time we finally got the red one. He is soft sided and has that good Blaze moderate birth weight. He is super deep and hairy, has a nice head and shoulder and is very fluid in his joints – it really is a treat to watch him on the move.

His dam is a tanky cow that has been an excellent producer – she has sold 2 daughters through the Pembina Triangle sale to Firdale Simmentals and Brett Vincent, another daughter to Darren Howden and 3 sons through our bull sale to Flying S Ranch, William & Cory Madziuk and Cloet Farms. Homo Polled, Hetero Black A beauty of a black bull with that “slash” of a blaze that angles across his face. This bull has presence in the pen with his flawless profile and muscle expression. These Blaze sons are a real pleasure to raise. Blaze’s calving ease and growth combined with the maternal strengths of our Hard Rock daughters make this bull something special. He was the top bull for adjusted weaning and yearling weight in his contemporary group and he has a great set of EPD’s.

The full brother sold to Lazy Bar B in last year’s sale - they used him in the heifer pen and have been more than pleased.

Homo Polled, Homo Black This is an impressive bull and his dam is equally impressive. He is very soft made, with loads of muscle in an attractive package. His dam has a flawless, milky udder and she is a cow that needs to be seen to appreciate her capacity and thickness. Once again, another Blaze son with complete EPDs and an adjusted yearling weight that was the highest in his contemporary group. The Blaze cattle have so much calving ease bred into them, but I’m always blown away at the performance they exhibit…they truly are curve bending cattle.

This bull gained 4.21 lbs/day since weaning and hasn’t looked back.

The value from his blaze face is an added bonus.

His dam is proving to be an elite cow in our herd – she raised our high selling bull last year to Corrie Martens and she also sold her only other 2 sons to Doug Poschenrieder and Van Buuren Stock Farms. We have kept one excellent daughter and her only other daughter was sold to Stan Enns at our female sale. This is the only Hot Iron son to sell this year, as we no longer run the bull, but he is a standout in his own right.

We’ve kept 2 daughters as replacements and sold a Vision daughter to Sydney deKoning through the Pembina Triangle sale. She’s also sold 2 other bulls to Murray Smyth and Miles Pederson, this cow really has been a no miss cow. This bull has that special black and white look that sets a group of calves apart from others. He is extremely moderate and could have the biggest top and hip in the pen and has a bomb proof disposition just like his mother. If you are looking to bring down frame, add a splash of white, add docility and thickness, then look no further.

Homo Polled, Hetero Black We purchased the dam of this bull at the Schweitzer dispersal and she did not disappoint. Another calving ease bull with lots of length and a balanced set of EPDs. Her first bull sold in last year’s sale to Van Buuren Stock Farms.

The white on his face will certainly be an asset. These Bentley calves have been fantastic as a group, lots of muscle and very attractive.

Homo Polled, Hetero Black A twin to the bull above, there is a lot of fertility is this cow family. His dam always breeds back first cycle and she has a near perfect udder. Hannibal has been a favorite from birth, you won’t find a quieter bull. A striking blaze face that will add value to his calves, he is also one of the longest bulls in the pen which only makes you money. He should sire the right kind with the right look.

Hetero Polled, Non Diluter Consistent is the way I would describe the mother of this bull – she has had 4 calves off of 4 different sires, all of them bulls with an average birth weight of 81 lbs and all of them have gone through this sale to Corrie Martens, Josh Grift and Moosebuilt Simmentals. Have a look at this guy’s EPDs…they are tremendous.

Top 20% for calving ease, top 25% for birth weight, top 10% for weaning weight, top 10% for yearling weight, top 40% for milk and top 15% for maternal calving ease. His curve bending genetics are proven and the key to profitability. This is a no miss bull, he walks and talks like a real breeder.

A dark red bull with a touch more frame and length, his dam is a tremendously milky High Roller cow. She sold a son through this sale to Plett Stock Farm. His EPDs for growth and milk are dead on – top 3% for weaning weight, top 10% for yearling weight and top 30% for milk.

He is a calf who gets noticed with his sharp profile and eye appeal. BID Every animal consigned to the sale must be sold by auction. No private sales will be allowed except as otherwise provided for in the terms and conditions. No by-bidding will be permitted. Each animal will be sold to the highest bidder.

SALES TAXES Applicable sales taxes will be charged on semen, embryos and trucking fees (if listed), respective to the home province of the buyer, not the seller.

DISPUTES In cases of disputes, bidding will be reopened between the parties involved. If no further bid is made the buyer will be the person from whom the auctioneer accepted the last bid. The auctioneer’s decision in such matters will be final.

PURCHASER’S RISK Each animal becomes the risk of the purchaser as soon as sold. Animals will be cared for at the purchaser’s risk for a reasonable length of time.

INFORMATION SUPPLIED The information contained in this catalogue is believed to be true and accurate. However, the information has been supplied by the seller and neither Transcon Livestock Corp. or Keltey Whelan Designs assume any responsibility if the information supplied is not accurate.

ANNOUNCEMENTS from the auction block will take precedence over the printed matter in the catalogue. Buyers are therefore cautioned to pay attention to any such announcements.

CERTIFICATE OF REGISTRY A registration/recordation certificate issued by the applicable breed association and duly transferred will be furnished to the buyer of each animal after settlement has been made. It is the responsibility of the buyer to determine the acceptance of this certificate in any other association.

SHIPPING Assistance will be given in making shipment after the sale but no risk is assumed by the Sales Management or Seller. Expenses incurred are the responsibility of the purchaser. Purchasers are requested to furnish shipping instructions when making settlement.

BREEDER’S GUARANTEE As per applicable Canadian Breed Association Breeding Guarantee guidelines. Copies are available at the sale settlement desk to be picked up by the buyer at any time. In no event shall the seller be responsible for reimbursing more than the purchase price.

EXCEPTION TO GUARANTEE In cases where the animal is subjected to any hormonal or surgical reproduction techniques after the sale, the guarantee shall be null and void.

HEALTH It is the buyer’s responsibility to determine health requirements for importing any animal into his province or state. Transcon Livestock Corp. assumes no responsibility for the health status of any animal in the sale.

ACCIDENTS Although every precaution will be taken to protect the safety and comfort of buyers, neither the Sales Management, auctioneer, consignors or Association assumes any responsibility in this matter and disclaims any liability legal or otherwise in the event of accident or loss of property.

RIGHTS AND OBLIGATIONS The above terms and conditions of the sale shall constitute a contract between the buyer and the seller and be equally binding to both. Resale of animals following purchase in this sale shall constitute a separate transaction and the rights and obligations of the two parties connected thereto are not covered by the terms and conditions of this sale.

We are proud to be hosting the sale on our farm for the first time and honoured to have such great friends and partners to work with in the Perkin and Triple R families.

We feel that our red bulls are the strongest most uniform group we have ever raised. The SVS Betts group of 10 bulls lead off the offering. These bulls are impressive to say the least! They are extremely thick, with exceptional depth of body and hip and quarter that is second to none. Furthermore, they all have that same eye-catching presence and masculinity that demand your attention. The Lieutenants offer an easy calving option with lots of shape and strength through the loin. This year we have 3 bulls that are direct sons to bulls that we have raised and are quite proud of the stout, good haired long spined bulls they have produced. Rounding out the offering are two exceptional performance Current Affair sons that exhibit incomparable rib shape and natural muscling.

The full blood pen is packed full of thickness and muscle expression. This year we have the first calf crops off of both JNR Cashmere and our Blush Rose Rocket bull. The JNR Cashmere bulls are similar in their make up. They are stout with great hair, lots of pigment and are packed with muscle. The Rocket calves have extra depth of body, are cherry red with phenomenal pigmentation. The first calf heifers did an amazing job on their Guerrero sons who have brought the calving ease potential to the table. These bulls have smooth front ends, low birth weight and lots of hip. The lone Metro son in the sale is one you won’t want to miss, he’s a very complete bull that will have a lot of admirers.

They are all stamped with the same huge quarter, depth of body and tremendous spring of rib combined with extra base width and loads of hair. Homozygous Polled A couple years ago at the Pembina Triangle Female Sale, Brooke fell in love with a stout and powerful dark red heifer with the sweetest disposition. That day Brooke bid on and bought a heifer for the first time, TWL Fancy. She decided that Lieutenant would be a good match for her first calf, and all I can say is that girl has an eye! Lieutenant is the bull we bought from Mader Ranches a few years back for $33,000 and he has worked well in both the heifer pen and with cows.

Homozygous Polled Rounding out the red offering this year we have another stellar Current Affair son. Here’s a bull who could quite easily make himself comfortable in a heifer pen. He boasts a 13.6 for calving ease along with his 88 lb birthweight. On the top and bottom side he has the two bulls that we have confidently used on our red heifers for a few years. Here is a bull with very clean lines, a smooth shoulder and a small head. He’s long spined with a deep set quarter.

He has high EPD’s for milk and comes from a heavy milking sound uddered cow. Hat Trick is a big goggled bull that looks good from every angle. He’s got a strong top, big barrel and a thick square quarter. Cashmere is a homozygous polled bull that was the high selling bull from JNR farms in their 2019 bull sale. We were fortunate enough to secure a semen package on him and are very excited to be able to sell some of his first calves.

Polled Full Fleck Oakview Harvey is out of one of our favourite young Full Fleck Cows. Oakview Dixie is the epitome of what we strive to produce in a cow.

She’s extremely thick, heavily pigmented, Liver Red cow that strides out on perfect feet and has an udder to die for. Dixie comes from the strong Pixie cow family that we have so much confidence in. Polled Full Feck – Non Diluter This December we said good-bye to an amazing cow. Red Fern was a polled powerhouse of a cow that was long spined, deep bodied with natural thickness. Fern was a heavy milking cow who passes that trait on to her offspring. We currently have 5 Fern daughters who are all stamped with the same style and thickness in addition to selling one this fall to Wilcox Simmentals & Alliance Simmentals. Holden was born at a modest 80 lb weight and backed by not only the calving ease of Metro but also Bar 5 Benz on the maternal side of the pedigree. Furthermore, to his calving ease he also has performance bred into him with Romano and Jeremiah.

Polled Full blood– Non Diluter Oakview Helix is an eye-catching bull that has been gathering attention since early summer. The overall depth of this bull and the way he carries down into his flank and square quarter are quite exceptional. Here is a bull that is smooth shouldered with a strong top, good feet and unique pigmentation. Helix is the lead off bull out of BRSF Rocket who we purchased from BlushRose Simmentals. Rocket has stamped all his calves with lots of pigment, lots of cherry red hair, and clean front ends. Non Diluter OVS 33H is an interesting bull phenotypically. He is nearly solid red with a splash of white on his face, front legs and belly. Haze is a square made bull with great depth of body. Polled Fullblood– Non Diluter Oakview HiJack is out of a powerful big soggy cow, with milk to spare. A couple years back HiJack’s dam raised a whopper of a bull that sold to Griffin Farms. Full Fleck The majority of our first calf heifers were bred to Guerrero the past 3 years. I don’t think we have had to assist in a single one of their births.

Guerrero has proven to be an easy calving bull for us. We also admire the muscle shape, masculinity and overall look of the bulls. Hendrix was born at 78 lbs from a moderate framed first calver. She milked hard and has a perfect udder. We feel like Hendrix would work well on heifers with a calving ease EPD of 11.3 with the added bonus of boasting a huge 41.3 milk EPD.

Full Fleck Here is the first bull we’ve sold out of our powerful Slapshot herd sire. Slapshot was an extremely soggy made yearling with explosive growth and muscle expression. The calves out of him are all stamped with the same look. The majority of his first calf crop were heifers so unfortunately, we only have one of his bulls in the sale. His calves have mellow dispositions, a soggy made style and strong top. Harvey is a bull to breed to your cows to add performance to your herd.
