NIWA RANCHING

The bulls on offer have never seen barley, silage, grain screenings or alfalfa. They have been fed a whole oat/lentil mix and free-choice grass hay (rations made/monitored by Barry Yaremcio/ Yaremcio Ag Consulting Ltd.). They ran on a 70 acre pasture all fall and were not brought in until they were weighed and processed on January 15, 2023. My commercial and purebred herd are not babied! They are expected to walk, perform, and survive in a rugged ranch environment. This includes the drought that has devastated our area over the past 2 years. I am a rancher first, and a purebred breeder second. My goal is to produce ranch-type cattle selecting genetic traits that are essential for the everyday ranching operation.

With a full-hearted attempt to bring you the best line up I can offer in this first year selling my purebred bulls and commercial open replacements, I have culled hard. These open heifers are first-cut and include the “elite” pen of 3 selected as Grand Champion Open Commercial Heifers at BOTH the Medicine Hat Pen Show and Oyen Crossroads Beef Congress. I would never sell a bull or heifer that I didn’t have the confidence to retain in my own herd.

It was with much thought, and encouragement from friends, in my decision to take my little hobby to a new level. The final decision was made when Lloyd and Sandra invited me to be a guest consignor at Camden Cattle’s 11th annual bull sale. I am honored, privileged, and excited to be a part of their first sale at their new location and with Transcon as their new management team. Aside from cattle, my dogs are my life. I have recently ventured into learning the basics of stock dog handling in hopes my dogs can help a bit more as labor becomes harder to find. Since I have so much spare time (wink wink), I have recently started a new venture, Niwa Performance PEMF. Please call or stop by anytime to check out my non-sugar-coated operation, meet my livestock and visit with myself and my 4-legged helpers. Stay safe and keep smilin’ from the girls at the Niwa Ranch.

Homo Polled This soggy, cherry-red Tycoon son packs a punch and is one of the most eyeappealing bulls in the pen. He ranks in the top 1% weaning weight and top 4% in yearling weight. Kaltonic 204K gives you the performance you want without sacrificing style and an excellent foot. If you like big butts, look no further! His mother MAF 211F is a moderate cow purchased out of the Meadow Acres dispersal. Kaltonic was featured in our display pen at the Crossroads Beef Expo.

Homo Polled The larger framed Key West 205K has the bragging rights of being the heaviest bull in the pen, with an actual weaning weight of 901 lb and yearling weight of 1465 lbs! He has an excellent black foot and would no-doubt be classified as a “powerbull” ranking in the top percentiles in yearling, and weaning weight. His moderate mother MAF 21G is a beautifully uttered cow and will have contributed to the powerful maternal percentiles across the board. Another great Tycoon son!
