INDIGENOUS SERVICES FOR STUDENTS

Department Mission

Indigenous Services for Students works collaboratively with multiple departments across the university to support the success of Indigenous students, while acknowledging the diversity in their identities, cultures, languages and experiences as they pursue academic studies. The delivery of student support services is guided by the 4 R’s: Indigenous people seek an education “that respects them for who they are, that is relevant to their view of the world, that offers reciprocity in their relationships with others, and that helps them exercise responsibility over their own lives.” - (Kirkness & Barnhardt, 1991) Indigenous Services for Students actively engages with the Indigenous community stakeholders to ensure cultural authenticity and the inclusion of Indigenous voices in its work on campus. staffing
