PROJECT A PLACE OF HEALING
Situated directly Kallang Basin, The pace of living in Singapore is generally fast and stressful. This project is catered for those who might need to take a break away from the hustle and bustle of the city and slow down their pace of living. Situated a distance away from the important districts nearby, it aims to isolate and bring joy to the residents through interation with nature and interation with other people in a safe and protected environment.

Tubular Bells
“Music expresses that which cannot be put into words and that which cannot remain silent.” With eyes closed and a deep breath, slowly immerse yourself in the soundscape and let your mind be spirited away. From commonly small, indiscreet chimes hung in a circular fashion that are confined within their small spaces comes an experience that is allencompassing. Striking the chimes produces peaceful, homely notes that permeates that the whole Understorey, creating a melodious blend with background sounds from its lush, green surrounding, blurring the boundary between Nature and men. This installation, Tubular Bells, serves to create this juxtaposed, yet harmonious experience for the visitors. It allows one to feel minuscule relative to something nostalgically small, creating a sense of immersion and disengagement within an expansive urban reality, leading one to delve further into the nature of Gardens by the Bay.

Extruded block from plot that is determined by the shortest width of the plot in the north-south direction.
Addition of ramps that gradually lead to the tip of the building. 2 blocks are divided to allow the ramps to reach the maximum height.
Height of the building and the angle of the ramp is altered to allow comfortable access.
Sides of the 2 blocks facing each other is cantilivered upwards, where the distance between blocks is the largest at the base of the building.
Additional platforms are added at certain junctions for comfort and rest for people travelling up along the ramps.

PROJECT THEATRE OF MACHINERY
Theatre of Machinery (Studio) This project explores the need to mechanize rituals of today for future generations with the study of Torajan’s Funeral Rites (Aluk To Dolo). The handling of bodies is delicate and of key importance, hence their motion and moments of maintenance are essentially a performance. In the post-apocalyptic world, technological advancements have allowed such processes to be effectively mechanized. With the use of machinery to move bodies, the technical space of a performance theatre Is brought forward and transformed into a performance stage. The Theatre is designed to challenge the existence of OpenAir Theatres and question theatres that exist within an enclosed space. Built within a canyon with towering landforms, the spaces of the Theatre are carved out within the landforms within reference like the Petra Jordan. The higher floors of the Theatre act as technical spaces for the bodies whereas the ground floor behave as the functional space for visitors of the Theatre. Beams are constructed to support the cantilevering spaces and they cross and overlap to create an interweaving structure. Encapsulating the Theatre are Structural Rings. Firstly, they support the performance by allowing bodies to dynamically move across the theatre. They also behave like an enclosure that separates the theatres spaces from the outside world. Visitors of the Theatre will cross a threshold to experience the spaces within the theatre. At the center of the Theatre, it is the functional space where visitors can choose to sit flexibly anywhere as the performance will encapsulate them as well. When the Theatre is not in used, it acts as a sculpture within the barren-dry canyon.

ifferentiated imensions
The museum is designed with the concept of dimensions where three different planes exist vertically. The needs of the museum are divided differently across these planes. The centre plane is big and spacious, allowing flexibility for partitions to be constructed to cater for different artworks. The top plane houses a living space for art production and the lower plane is an open public space.

ROOF
ENCLOSURE
Wood is a good insulating material that conducts less heat into the building.
Full length windows and doors allow ventilation across the house.
GROUND The gaps between the wooden planks used for flooring brings air into the interior. Stilts lift the house above ground to avoid flooding. The gap between the ground and the floor helps to catch strong winds.
