Kuti magazine is edited and published by Kutikuti, a nonprofit and artist-driven comics association. You can also subscribe to Kuti. The subscription fee is 20 euros for one year (four issues). Festivaalitaiteilija emilia Laatikainen Emilia Laatikainen on lintuja ihaileva sarjakuvantekijä ja kuvataiteen opettaja. Häntä innostavat tällä hetkellä lintujen ohella, mustavalkoisuus ja häpeä aiheena, ei tunteena. Laatikaisen omaelämäkerrallinen Ei ois susta uskonu voitti Sarjakuva-Finlandia-palkinnon 2024.

Julie Doucet (kanada) Julie Doucet syntyi Montrealissa 1965. Suoritettuaan taidegrafiikan tutkinnon Université du Québec à Montréal -yliopistossa hän keskittyi luomaan omaelämäkerrallisia sarjakuvia, joita on käännetty useille kielille. Suosiostaan huolimatta Doucet luopui formaatista 1999 ja palasi taidegrafiikan pariin. Hän on sittemmin tuottanut taiteilijajulkaisuja jatkaessaan samalla työtään sanojen ja kuvien parissa. Vuonna 2022 Doucet vastaanotti Angoulêmen kansainvälisillä sarjakuvafestivaaleilla Grand Prix -palkinnon.

Elias Ericson (Ruotsi) Elias Ericson on Göteborgissa asuva ruotsalainen kuvittaja ja sarjakuvataiteilija. Hänen työnsä keskittyvät usein LGBTQ-hahmojen ja -aiheiden ympärille. Diana & Charlie (2026) on hänen ensimmäinen suomeksi julkaistu sarjakuvakirjansa.

Posy Simmonds (Iso-Britannia) Posy Simmonds (s. 1945) on Ison-Britannian arvostetuimpiin kuuluva, kansainvälisesti palkittu sarjakuvantekijä, jonka teokset ovat usein satiireja keskiluokan elämästä. Simmondsin tunnetuimpia teoksia ovat klassikkokirjallisuuden inspiroimat Gemma Bovery (suomennettu 2026), Tamara Drewe (2007) ja Cassandra Darke (2018). Hän on myös kirjoittanut ja kuvittanut useita lastenkirjoja sekä julkaissut kokoelmia piirroksistaan.

Aino Havukainen & Sami Toivonen Aino Havukainen ja Sami Toivonen työskentelevät yhdessä lastenkirjailijoina, kuvittajina ja graafisina suunnittelijoina. Heidän tunnetuimmat teoksensa ovat Tatu ja Patu- sekä Veera-kirjasarjat.

Lavliqe Lavliqe tunnetaan somessa pääosin animaatiosketseistä, ääninäyttelemisestä ja tarinankerronnasta. Tarinankertojana ja esiintyjänä hänelle merkittävintä on luomisen ilo, inspiroiminen ja ennen kaikkea ihmisten naurattaminen!

Sabine Lemire & Rasmus Bregnhøi (Tanska) Rasmus Bregnhøi on kuvittanut yli 200 kuvakirjaa lapsille ja nuorille. Sabine Lemire taas on kirjoittanut yli 80 lasten- ja nuortenkirjaa. Yhdessä he ovat tehneet useita kuvakirjoja, tietokirjoja ja sarjakuvakirjoja. Heidän palkittu Mira-sarjansa koostuu 16 kirjasta.

Kutiburger, jota juuri pitelet käsissäsi, on kasvatettu vastuullisesti eurooppalaisen vaihtoehtosarjakuvapellon hedelmällisessä maaperässä, kahden pitkäaikaisen viljelijän yhteistyönä. Samoista siemenistä on kylvetty myös Stripburger-lehden 88. numero, kuuluen näin yhteiseen Kutiburger-sukuun. Syksyn 2026 satokauden Kutiburgereiden sarjakuvia yhdistävänä teemana on suhde luontoon. Tämä lehti esittelee yhdeksän slovenialaista sarjakuvataiteilijaa. Stripburgeria on julkaistu Sloveniassa yhtäjaksoisesti vuodesta 1992 lähtien. Lehden yli kolmen vuosikymmenen ajan jatkuneeseen toimintaan on aina sisältynyt aktiivista osallistumista festivaaleille, messuille, näyttelyihin ja muihin sarjakuvatapahtumiin ulkomailla, jonka peruja on myös pitkäikäinen ystävyyssuhde Kutin kanssa.

Independent magazines and anthologies are the explosive fertilizer of the European alternative comics scene. They are the soil for fresh artistic voices, wild approaches, and offbeat ideas – frequently driving the development of the entire scene, in which authenticity and creative freedom matter far more than the monocultural dictates of the market. Their strength lies in cultivating and nurturing the local comic soil, while combined, these incubators enable international cross-pollination. Stripburger magazine has been shaping the scene continuously since 1992. For over three decades, we have enthusiastically embraced invitations to festivals, fairs, exhibitions, and other comic events abroad, persistently expanding our mycelium of international friendships and alliances. A long-standing friendship also binds us with the Finnish comic collective Kutikuti, the publisher of Kuti magazine. This year, we finally sowed the seeds of joint creation in this fertile soil, joining forces to cultivate two special issues - two “Kutiburgers”. The 81st issue of Kuti, which you are holding in your hands, features 9 selected Slovenian authors across different generations, visual poetics, and narrative approaches. Concurrently, the 88th issue of Stripburger brings a fresh harvest of dynamic, wild-grown short comics by a whole hive (no fewer than 30 members!) of the Kutikuti collective. Together, they paint a vibrant and remarkably diverse picture of the contemporary Slovenian and Finnish comic scenes, exploring our relationship with nature in all its manifestations - as something that shapes our worldview and environment. From the wilderness to the city, from the forest to the backyard garden, from embracing ourselves as part of nature we admire and protect, to confronting our hypocritical role as we exploit, destroy, and alienate ourselves from it. After all, nature and the independent comics scene share the same logic: both are rooted in diversity, interconnectedness, constant decay, and the emergence of the new. However, this lush comics ecosystem does not grow on its own - it requires immense effort, hard work, patience, and perseverance. Creative connections and fruitful collaborations are the force that, no matter what, keeps driving life in new and exciting directions.
