Since distributors have been holding back for two years, our 2022 choices are more interesting and varied than ever before. We hope our selections of entertaining and thought-provoking films and invited guests - both in person and virtually - will result in many stimulating discussions.
In this our 22nd year (!) the Nashville Jewish Film Festival is ever grateful for your patronage and feels good to be able to offer you a choice of viewing options. We hope to see you during our festival – either in person or virtually! Stay safe and healthy!

THE NJFF DIRECTORS
*This year, because we are indeed hybrid, we ask you to carefully check this program guide and the online listings to note which films will be shown virtually and which will be in person. Due to price restraints, none of the films will be offered in both versions.*

WELCOME TO THE 22nd ANNUAL NASHVILLE JEWISH FILM FESTIVAL
Dear Movie Fans,
Welcome to our HYBRID 2022 Nashville Jewish Film Festival (NJFF)! You probably remember that last year we had hoped to be hybrid but decided the better choice from a health perspective was to stay all virtual. We thank you for your understanding of that last-minute change, and we want you to know how much we appreciated your support.
We have our old favorites – Monday and Thursday Matinees and the Sunday family screening, and we are delighted to have a new venue for Opening Night (back in person again!) – Ruby Sunshine in Hillsboro Village! After a New Orleans’ style dinner and a toast to our 2022 NJFF, we will cross the street to our cherished Belcourt Theatre to launch the festival.

2) Connect students and community members with the stories of Holocaust victims, survivors, rescuers, and liberators;
Yet, no matter how funny and clever the programming was, I didn’t find myself laughing out loud as I did in a theater watching a funny movie. When a Marx Bros movie got me to smile rather than laugh out loud I knew I was missing something. And I love The Marx Bros!
No matter how sad the story was, I rarely cried as I did when I watched a sad movie in a theatre. I knew something was missing. It seems to me that we need to be with other people to urge us to laugh out loud or allow tears to fall Welcome back to our hybrid season. Laugh with your neighbors and let yourself enjoy the emotional response to a film. And participate in the luxury of watching fine movies from the comfort of your home when we are showing films virtually. I think we are truly providing both community and comfort by being in theaters for some films and providing others virtually.
GREETINGS FROM THE NJFF MANAGING DIRECTOR
3) Present current, relevant scholarship on the Holocaust;
The Holocaust Lecture Series presents personal stories, lectures, films, art exhibitions and performances, and other events at Vanderbilt University and in the Nashville community to:

1) Remember and honor the victims, survivors, and rescuers of the Holocaust;
4) Promote continuing engagement with the memory of the Holocaust through the arts;
5) Encourage critical reflection on the Holocaust in order to: Explore moral choice and responsibility of bystanders and perpetrators in the Holocaust or historic and present day instances of mass atrocity or genocide; Identify and confront prejudice, hatred, and violence in the present day.
Fran Brumlik, NJFF Managing Director

Over the past two years or so, like so many other people, I spent a lot of time watching TV and streaming movies and episodic programming. I enjoyed most of what I saw and sometimes was amazed at the lengths networks and cable companies would go to in order to get us to continue watching. They knew most of us were not comfortable being with crowds of people in movie theaters.
The co-directors and I are happy to present the 22nd Nashville Jewish Film Festival.
