Welcome Mother Nature has finally brought us spring! We are excited to share all the great things happening at the JCC with you! The JCC pool is the place to be this summer and to get things started. The whole family will enjoy our Summer Pool kick-off party on May 27th, with food, music and of course, pool games! Throughout this guide, you’ll find information about our wide array of offerings including swim lessons, aquatics classes for all ages and our J-Rays swim team. We are hard at work finalizing the details for our 10 weeks of Camp JCC! In addition to our eight weeks of traditional camp, we are launching two weeks of specialty camps including LEGO® Engineering Play Well TEKnologies, Learning Lab 360 Virtual Reality Minecraft Camp, and TreeRunner Raleigh Adventure Climbing Camp. This summer will see many new programs such as Grandparents Day at the J and the return of a few fan favorites such as Pickling and “To Laugh,” a 3-week series on Jewish humor. In June, we will be celebrating Israel’s 70th birthday with a 3-day Israeli Film Festival & in July we are partnering with PJ Library to host a community concert with Jewish Rock Star, Rich Recht! Then we wrap-up the summer with a special performance by the Tzofim Friendship Caravan on August 5th! We’re gearing up for a fun-filled summer at the J. We continue to expand our program offerings, hoping that every member of the JCC, no matter your age or area of interest, can find something to stimulate your mind and invigorate your body. All the details for our programs, classes, and events can be found on our website at RaleighCaryJCC.org/calendar/ and on our Facebook pages. Thank you to our JCC members, donors, and program participants for your continued support and for being part of our JCC family.

COMMUNICATION: ITS ART & SOUL Thursdays, May 10, 17 & 24 | 7:30pm–9pm Instructor: Rabbi Lev Cotlar Location: JCC Members: $18 | General Community: $36 The rise of the internet, mobile phones, and social media has completely changed the way we relate, interact, and communicate with one another—and it’s high time we reclaim this lost art. In Jewish philosophy, communication is more than just a tool: it is who we are. Humans are defined as communicative beings with a communicative soul, and aligning ourselves with this soul is our raison d’être. In Communication: Its Art and Soul, we contrast Jewish thought with scientific discovery to unearth the essence of communication and how to utilize its powers to better ourselves, our relationships, and all of society This course is eligible for continuing education credits for social workers and LMFT’s.

“The single biggest problem in communication is the illusion that it has taken place.” -George Bernard Shaw

JULY

Through this three week examination of form and content we will discuss some of the foundations upon which Jewish Humor can be built. We will also provide some opportunities to get on your feet and feel what the style is like in the mouth and body and explore what that can do to the heart and to the mind. TERRI FISHMAN
