Seven years later, however, a severe drought forced Guenther to change his business model. Faced with a shortage of grain to grind and water to drive the wheel, he relocated his business and purchased a 7.75-acre site near the center of San Antonio along the powerful San Antonio River. He completed the new mill in 1860, then commenced construction of the family home that is the foundation for today’s Guenther House.
