Investing in knowledge and innovation

Together, we open the future

INVESTING IN KNOWLEDGE AND INNOVATION

Investing in KU Leuven is investing in future-oriented education and world-class innovative research. Endowed chairs strengthen the university's ambition to help build a sustainable society.

Why invest?

KU Leuven is one of the most innovative universities in the world. This is partly possible thanks to the support of its donors.

By endowing a chair, you contribute to the further development and consolidation of KU Leuven as an internationally renowned knowledge institution.

As a donor you support initiatives centred on future-oriented education, help pave the way for pre-competitive research and have a lasting impact on our society.

Various disciplines

From natural science and technology to humanities and biomedical sciences. The chairs at KU Leuven lead from the front in a variety of areas. They not only build the future of education and research, but also fulfil a societal role:

• The knowledge centre financed by the Cera/Boerenbond Chair is putting cooperative entrepreneurship more firmly on the map and focuses on increasing scientific support for the sector.

• The Bayer Lecture Chair in Cardiovascular Medicine conducts pioneering research in thrombosis and anti-thrombotic therapy.

A list of all current chairs can be found at: www.kuleuven.be/fundraising/chairs/overview

• Thanks to the AB InBev Chair in Malting and Brewing, KU Leuven was able to launch the international postgraduate degree in malting and brewing, as well as the MOOC (Massive Open Online Course) 'Beer: The science of brewing'.

CHAIRS IN FIGURES

Chairs have been established at KU Leuven since 1993

There are now more than 100 chairs in various fields

A chair lasts for at least 3 years *

The yearly cost of a chair is a minimum of 70 000 euros*

* The amount and duration may differ per chair depending on the needs of the chosen project. The three-year term is often extended.

Your own chair

Would you like to endow a chair? Then you should first determine the theme and objectives together with the academic administration and the course holder. The latter is appointed by the rector on the recommendation of the dean of the faculty concerned.

The chair is then set up in consultation with the faculty. As a private individual, company or organisation, you can affix your name to the chair. Financing a chair is a form of patronage, not contract research. The intellectual property rights to the results of the research – carried out utilising the resources of the chair – remain the property of KU Leuven.

At the official inauguration, the chair is signed in the presence of the rector. After that, the holder uses the amount in accordance with the agreements and regularly reports to you as a donor.

You will also be mentioned in scientific publications and invited to special events such as the opening of the academic year and Patron’s Day. This is how KU Leuven invests in a lasting relationship with its donors.

DONATION OR SPONSORSHIP

Would you like to endow a chair? There are two options available:

• With a declaration of intent (indirect donation) you will receive a tax certificate and you will enjoy a tax reduction of 45%.

• With a sponsorship agreement you will receive an invoice and pay 21% VAT, which is fully tax deductible.
