Coming from a small town in central Kansas, many community members spoke fondly of their memories and time as KU students and boasted of the incredible opportunities afforded to them because of their alma mater. So, when I decided to go to law school — and when I decided I wanted to practice in Kansas — my top choice was a no-brainer: KU Law. My acceptance became sweeter when I received my financial aid packet and realized that my time in law school would not be filled with anxieties about how I would afford tuition. My scholarship has allowed me to dedicate my time to studying and getting involved in the KU Law community through clubs/ organizations, public interest job opportunities, fellowships and clinics. Through their donations, donors have allowed me to succeed in law school, and I will forever be appreciative of their generosity.”

Broadening educational possibilities In 2025, KU Law provided more than $100,000 in funding for summer public interest stipends. Through the support of the Bradley Family, the Bremyer Fund, the Richard L. & Suzanne Sedgwick Bond Fund, the Donald and Esther Atha Giffin Public Interest Law Fund, the Doug Bonney and Rochelle Harris Public Interest Stipend and the Public Interest Law Student Fund, KU Law offers stipends to help students offset the expenses incurred when they take legal internships at public-interest employers, including government agencies, legal services providers, prosecution offices, public defense offices, courts and nonprofits.

I am incredibly grateful and honored to have received the public interest stipend, which supported my summer internship at the Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office in New York. This experience was both meaningful and rewarding, as it provided me with invaluable insight into the workings of our criminal justice system, giving me an opportunity to observe courtroom proceedings, learn courtroom decorum and professional conduct and gain a deeper understanding of what it takes to be an effective attorney. The knowledge and skills I developed during this internship have strengthened my confidence and will undoubtedly help me feel more prepared to begin practicing law after graduation. I sincerely thank the generous donors who made this opportunity possible.”
The public interest stipend made my entire summer possible. Without the stipend, I would not have been able to work in the area of law I was interested in. Through my summer experience, I grew as both a lawyer and a person, and all of that was an option for me because of the public interest stipend. One Day One KU 2025 The eighth annual One Day One KU fundraising campaign was another huge success for the university and the School of Law. In a 24-hour period, 155 supporters donated $58,765 to KU Law. As an institution, the University of Kansas raised more than $5.4 million for programs and initiatives across all campuses. Since One Day One KU launched in 2018, donors have given more than $538,000 to support KU Law. Your contributions have strengthened the KU Law Student Emergency Fund, offering crucial one-time grants to students encountering unforeseen financial challenges. Additionally, your support has backed initiatives such as the Bar Prep Program and student scholarship funds.
