Inspire. Empower. Deliver. This tagline captures the philosophy on which our company is built. Those three words drive our daily behaviours and contribute to our goal of being a great company to work for and work with. To bring these three words to life, Kuehne+Nagel defined nine new Behaviours.

There are few places where the international character of Kuehne+Nagel is as present as in our Contern site in Luxembourg. A significant number of colleagues commute from neighbouring countries, including Belgium and France, but most of them live in Germany, especially in Trier and its surroundings. With the opening of a new Satellite Office, close to the German border in Luxembourg, these colleagues can save time and significantly shorten their daily commute.
Could you imagine a commute of +50 km per day? Many of our Lux colleagues travel a large distance every day to come to work. The new Satellite Office not only reduces the distance for these colleagues but also offers the possibility of cycling or taking the train to work. Still, not only the environmental impact led to the idea of opening a Satellite Office in Luxembourg.
Kuehne+Nagel wants to be “the best company to work for”. In this respect, we provide flexibility in terms of working time and working location. However, if our German colleagues would work for KN BeLux from their homes, they would be subject to double taxation. Opening the Satellite Office in Wasserbillig, roughly a 30 km drive closer to the German border than Contern, allows every colleague the same flexibility, without the financial impact of the double taxation treaty.
According to Ilaria Laccisaglia (National Quality Specialist), “the satellite office allows employees to save time on their commute and contributes to a better work-life balance. Just like working from home”. Thanks to the satellite office, Samantha Kurth (Freight Settlement Coordinator) saves up to 40 minutes per trip, being able to take a 15-minute ferry to Wasserbillig instead of a 55-minute drive to Contern. “It saves me a lot of time, but I also noticed the closer contact with colleagues. The office can be used by all BUs and FUs and there are no fixed desks. Like that, you meet new people every time and catch things that you normally wouldn’t, both business-related and personal. That is a nice side-effect”.
The launch of the satellite office pays off since it is occupied close to 100% every day. An appreciated initiative and a great example of a collaborated realization. The launch could not have been realised without the great collaboration between IT, Facility, Reception and HR. A big thank you for making this possible!
