College harnesses pandemic time to complete renovations

By CVM Communications & Marketing

In light of a global pandemic, there have been some beaming bright spots for both the college and the Veterinary Health Center.

Within one calendar year, the college renovated more than 20,000 square feet of clinical and classroom teaching space as part of the renovations for three different areas. These renovations are a product of three separate corporate donations.

The spaces

In August 2020, the class of 2024 was welcomed into a brand-new auditorium for orientation week. The new Boehringer Ingelheim Auditorium, is located between Trotter and Mosier Halls, complete with teaching areas that can be sectioned off or opened into a bright atrium space to welcome visitors and events.

The livestock services section of the VHC began accepting patients into their newly renovated indoor and outdoor facilities in October 2020. The renovations, finished within six months, were made possible with the support of Merck Animal Health. Upgrades include a drive-thru unloading feature to improve drop-off and pickup, a new tilt chute and obstetrics handling area, plus holding pens, alleyways and a bud tub to provide safe movement of patients.

In April 2021, the Pet Health Center moved into a brand new space more than double the square footage of its previous area, now in the former location of Frick Hall Auditorium. This welcoming area of the teaching hospital, Hill’s Pet Health & Nutrition Center, offers a comfortable seating area for primary care clients, multiple exam rooms, plus a separate conference room for faculty, students and house officers to prepare for rounds.

The new Hill's Pet Health & Nutrition Center offers an incredible amount of space for faculty, staff and students to provide primary care for pets. Multiple new spacious, bright exam and treatment rooms make up the perimeter of the new service area.

In fall 2021, Cat Town pre-game events will be hosted in the new Atrium. Attendees will be shuttled back and forth to the stadium. On the weekend of Sept. 24 and 25, the college will combine its annual Kind Hearts celebration with class reunions on an away-game weekend.

To make up for lost time with class reunions, the college will combine two sets of classes (years ending in 0 and 1 and years ending in 5 and 6). Tours of the complex will be provided, and alumni will be able to watch the away game on the monitors in the newly built BI Auditorium.
