Fees Resident/Non-Resident Fees: Johnson City residents make significant contributions to the operation of this department through the payment of property taxes. These contributions are separate from fees paid for programs and services offered by the Parks and Recreation Department. In recognition of this contribution, Johnson City residents qualify for the resident rate. Those who live outside Johnson City’s municipal limits qualify for the non-resident rate.

Seasonal Job Opportunities Parks and Recreation provides seasonal job opportunities such as lifeguards, summer program staff, tennis instructors, athletic officials, scorekeepers and turf and maintenance staff.

Warning of Risk Recreational activities/programs are intended to challenge and engage the physical, mental and emotional resources of each participant. Despite careful and proper preparation, instruction, medical advice, conditioning and equipment, there is still a risk of serious injury when participating in any recreational activity/program.

Understandably, not all hazards and dangers can be foreseen. Depending on the particular activity, participants must understand that certain risks, dangers and injuries due to inclement weather, slipping, falling, poor skill level or conditioning, carelessness, horseplay, unsportsmanlike conduct, premises defects, inadequate or defective equipment, inadequate supervision, instruction or officiating and all other circumstances inherent to indoor and outdoor recreational activities/programs exist. In this regard, it must be recognized that it is impossible for the city of Johnson City to guarantee absolute safety.

All participants are expected to follow facility rules. Specialty areas, such as, pools, mountain bike trails and fitness areas, have posted signs stating special rules specific to that area. Disregard or abuse of facility rules may result in removal by staff or police from the facility for a designated length of time or permanently.

Registration Classes and programs are offered at all center locations. Registration is available for most programs online at www.myjcparks.org. Walk-in registration is welcome at all locations during regular operating hours.

Refunds  

  

Refunds will not be given on rentals and reservations.

When inclement weather requires the cancellation of Johnson City Schools, all scheduled classes and programs, with the exception of athletic league games for that day, will be cancelled and a full refund will be given. If the class, event or athletic program is cancelled by staff, a full refund will be given. Medical refunds may be considered upon request if accompanied by a valid doctor’s note. No refunds will be given for a class program or athletic program once it begins.

Refunds will ge given for a class, program or athletic program before it starts. If the class, program or athletic program is less than $10, a full refund will be given. Class, programs or athletic programs greater than $10 will be charged an administrative fee of $10.

Transfers on department-operated classes, programs or athletic programs can be transferred with the same division for the same fee. However, the transfer must be made before the start date.

The department reserves the right to grant any and all refunds at its sole discretion. An appeal can be requested at in writing to the Parks and Recreation director, whose decision is administratively final.

In honor of all mothers, grandmothers, godmothers, and guardians, we are hosting this event to give that special time for sons to spend with their loved ones. The medieval theme will be so fun and come dressed the part if you would like! We will serve dinner, make a craft and watch a movie together!

Teen Night! Glow-in-the-Dark Nerf War Location: Memorial Park Community Center Call: 423-434-5749 Date: Friday, Aug. 19 Time: 6-8 P.M Ages: 13-17 years old Cost: Free Registration: July 29-Aug. 10 Gear up for MPCC’s first Glow-in-the-Dark Nerf War! Join us with your closest friends as we battle the night away in your brightest colors. All participants must come prepared with their own Nerf guns that must be approved by staff before use. Nerf darts will be provided at the time of the event.

Ages: 2-6 years Cost: $10/participant (early registration by August 5), $15/participant (late registration Aug. 5-12) It’s never too early to start thinking about a healthy lifestyle for the little ones! This event will be so fun for the entire family.

The plan is to have the preschooler’s ride the designated distance on their big wheel, tricycle, or bike (with training wheels) and then hop off to run around the green space and there may be a few obstacles for them to enjoy and finish with running through water! Please bring swim suit, towels, helmets and bikes. They will get wet! Enjoy some snacks at the finish line and cheer on your small athlete!

Dog Swim Date and Time: Saturday, Sept. 10 from 11 a.m.-4 p.m. and Sunday, Sept. 11 1 p.m.-5 p.m.

Cost: $5 per dog, limit 2 dogs per handler Location: Legion Street Pool Come bring your furry children to Legion Street Pool for a day of fun in the pool.

Dogs must be up to date on vaccines (records will be required upon entry) and must be spayed or neutered. Handlers are not allowed in the swimming pool with their dogs.

Age: 18 and older Cost: $50 per month Join this group of adult swimming enthusiasts for organized workouts supervised by a professional coach. Participants range in ability from novice to former high school and college athletes. This motivational group will get you into shape, help train you for triathlons, and improve your techniques.

Kayak Roll Class

This time is set aside for Boy and Girl Scout troops to work on their water skills that are necessary to obtain badges. Join the 100-Mile Swim Club and keep a tally of the laps you swim during each workout on the boards provided. Shirts will be presented in January for those paid participants in this swim challenge.

Cost: $4 per class or $30 per month This class is a perfect blend of shallow and deep water exercise that will build cardio, strength and flexibility and leave you feeling invigorated for the rest of your day! Enjoy utilizing buoyancy (floatation) belts and resistance equipment to experience NO IMPACT WORKOUT sparing your joints without compromising your desire for a total body fitness routine. (Ability to swim is not required.)

Cost: $4 per class or $30 per month Have a form of arthritis? This is an activity that can help manage the symptoms of arthritis. This class helps get you moving with a low impact exercise. It is held in our therapy pool which is equipped with a handicap lift.

The trail provides opportunities for walking, hiking, running, and biking on a relatively flat grade in a beautiful, natural setting. When complete, the 10-mile trail will be the longest rails-to-trails project in Tennessee. The trail was built without any federal or state funding. Rather, it’s the result of generous donations from individuals, businesses, and local governments.
