Honoring the Legacy of Our Alumni Honoring the Legacy of Our Alumni

The Martin J. Walsh Alumni Award recognizes and honors individuals who have overcome significant hurdles due to substance use and/or mental health disorders. By celebrating stories like these, this annual tradition aims to show people that recovery is possible, and there is hope.

Gosnold is proud to recognize Thomas Gunning, Executive Director of the Building Trades Employers’ Association Northeast, with this year’s Martin J. Walsh Alumni Award. Tom’s journey is one of resilience and transformation. After battling addiction to opioids and alcohol for over a decade, stemming from a college baseball injury, Tom has turned his life around and has become a beacon of hope for others in recovery. Despite challenges such as legal issues, overdoses, and homelessness, Tom found sobriety with support from Gosnold.

Beyond his personal recovery, Tom has had a profound impact on others. He founded BTEA’s Building Trades Recovery Week, which raises awareness of substance use and mental health challenges in the construction industry. What started as a one-week initiative has grown into a year-round effort that helps individuals break the stigma surrounding addiction and mental health.

Tom credits the success of this initiative to the collaborative efforts of the BTEA Board, labor management partners, and colleagues like Shawn Nehiley of the Iron Workers District Council.

However, it’s his unwavering dedication to those he helps—whether through late-night calls or immediate support— that sets him apart. As a father, husband, son, and friend, Tom embodies the transformative power of recovery. We are honored to present him with this prestigious award.

“Together,

we are building a brighter future for those we serve”

Dear Friend,

As we reflect on the past year, Gosnold has remained firmly dedicated to delivering exceptional care, engaging with our community, and upholding the high standards that define our work. The commitment of our team, combined with the generous support of individuals like you, has been vital in advancing our mission and reinforcing the core values that guide our organization.

In the area of patient care, Gosnold continues to prioritize evidence-based, comprehensive treatment for individuals struggling with substance use disorders and mental health challenges. Our work to provide compassionate, effective care remains at the heart of everything we do.

We are also working to strengthen our community presence and expand our impact into new areas. Through partnerships and outreach, we are fostering connections that allow us to support more individuals and families, raising awareness and providing resources where they are needed most.

Financially, we are navigating the challenges of a complex healthcare environment while maintaining stability and ensuring our ability to grow thoughtfully. This year, we have taken significant steps to expand access to care, including the opening of two new outpatient facilities in Plymouth and Devens. These new locations allow us to bring vital services to more communities and enhance our ability to reach those in need.

Looking ahead, we recognize that challenges remain, but we are committed to adapting and strengthening our organization for the future. With the dedication of our team and the continued support of our community, we are focused on expanding our reach and ensuring that individuals can access the care they deserve.

I would like to extend my deepest gratitude to every member of the Gosnold family—our staff, volunteers, donors, and community partners. Your ongoing commitment has had a profound impact on the lives of so many, and together, we are building a brighter future for those we serve. I look forward to the continued growth and success of Gosnold in the years to come.

With much gratitude,
