RVHS Parent Bulletin Aspiration Respect Endeavour Week ending: Friday 21st December 2018 “Our vision is to be the school of choice for our local community, developing successful young people with high aspirations, who show respect for all and endeavour to become the very best that they can be.”
Message from the Head of School A time to reflect…. I would like to thank all parents for their ongoing support of the school during this incredibly busy autumn term. We have seen the opening of the new Brook Building, which is now a fully utilised, integral part of the school. The students are making excellent use of the facilities and have also been enjoying the new 3G pitches. Our Year 7s and Year 12s have settled incredibly well into their respective year groups and our school community continues to flourish, we are now full in most year groups. We enjoyed significantly improved A Level results last summer and it was a real pleasure to have so many of our alumni join us last night for the KS5 Awards. It was a great opportunity to celebrate in their successes whilst here at the school. Many were recounting stories of their first terms at university and others joined the celebrations straight from work. It is very interesting to hear about their fantastic opportunities on the varied higher level apprenticeships. Our school community is diverse and it was great to feel that Roding Valley spirit; seeing the successful, well rounded individuals that they have all become. It was a very proud evening for the school and I also thank Mr Stephen Murray, who came in his Mayor of Loughton capacity, to present the prestigious Murray Award. Please see the article later in the bulletin for some lovely photographs from the evening. Last week, we also hosted our KS4 Awards evening where we recognised the fantastic achievement of our GCSE students. We are delighted that so many of the highest achieving students have chosen to stay with us for their sixth form studies. We served over 600 Christmas dinners on Wednesday 12th December. The staff and students thoroughly enjoyed the spread and thank you to Pat, our catering manager for providing such a scrumptious Christmas meal. It was lovely to see so many of our Year 11 students taking advantage of this, in previous years they would have missed out as they took their lunches off site.
