FALL 2021

BIO: Kristina Kvavle Pinegar is a sophomore at Thomas Jefferson University in the Landscape Archtitecture Program. Fall semester 2021 has introduced skills in digital 3D modeling and learning to translate drawn sketches into something closer to presentation worthy digital mediums. This portfolio highlights projects from Fall 2021 completed for: Visualization III - Professor Abeer Jazzaa LARCH 201: Site Design - Professor Matthew Tucker

Project One: A Small Space

Russian Quitessential - 2021 Nikola-Lenivets, Russia Sergey Kuznetsov, Chief Architect of Moscow

After choosing a small, simple structure from anywhere in the world, students created a 3D model, including topography, using Rhino. Russian Quintessential was designed for an Architectural Festival in Moscow earlier this year. The architect particularly valued the simplicity and strength of this elevated cylinder inspired by the internal structure of a ship utilizing ribs and stringers as supports.

Site Design: The final stage of Project OneW asked students to choose a site in an urban setting and render the model in that location. The cylindrical of the model lent itself to reimagine the structure as a pop up coffee shop. I chose Science park behind the Franklin Institute in the Museum District of Philadelphia as my site. The central location near museums and universities and walkability factor of the surrounding neighborhoods made this park an ideal spot for a walk-up coffee shop.

Cabin Competition: Vis3 students chose from a group of cabins to recreate in 3D models in Rhino in a student wide competition. I chose Hut on Sleds by Crosson Architects. One of the most unique features of this cabin is that the entire structure rests on sleds and can easily be moved along sand behind a tractor. It also can be closed and shuttered completely for protection during moving or bad weather. Boards were created by each student for final submission.

Pennsylvania State Park Addition: To complete our cabin competition a State Park was selected to inform a site design based on the topography of the park. Presque Isle State Park, an island north of Erie, PA that sits on Lake Erie, was the natural choice because of its sandy environment.

THOMAS JEFFERSON C-ABE CABIN COMPETITION - 2021 ABLE TO SLEEP A GROUP OF FIVE, THE UNIQUE DESIGN THE HUT ON SLEDS ALLOWS FOR THE THE ENTIRE UNIT TO BE PULLED ON SLEDS TO WHATEVER LOCATION THE OCCUPANTS DESIRE. THE GLASS FRONT OF THE CABIN PROVIDES AN OPPORTUNITY TO CHOOSE THE BEST VIEWS WHEREVER THE CABIN IN SITUATED. THE SHUTTERS COVER ALL WINDOWS AND DOORS FOR TRANSPORT AND PROTECTION AGAINST WEATHER AND CAN BE OPENED AND CLOSED FROM INSIDE. PRESQUE ISLE STATE PARK ON LAKE ERIE WAS THE PERFECT SANDY LOCATION FOR THIS UNUSUAL STRUCTURE. THE DUNES AND WATER VIEWS ON THE ISLAND UTILIZE THE HUT ON SLED'S BEST FEATURES AS A SELF-SUFFICIENT STRUCTURE.
