2018 Highlights
The mission of Boys & Girls Clubs of Hawaii is to enable all young people, especially those who need us most, to reach their full potential as productive, caring, responsible citizens.
More than 30,000 children and adults were reached through BGCH programs. The Hale Pono Clubhouse opened a Center of Innovation in February of 2018, the first of its kind in Hawaii. The Center will provide children of military families access to STEM programming. Great Futures Day launched in May of 2019 to inspire everyone in Hawaii to support the Great Futures of our keiki.
The after-school hours have become a critical time for youth – a time when many children in our communities are left to fend for themselves without positive adult supervision. Thank you for being a part of our mission and continued work with Hawaii’s youth.

2018 Youth of the Year The winner of our 2018 Youth of the Year competition was Shalain M. from the Spalding Clubhouse. Shalain is currently a senior in high school and leads as the captain and third highest rank in her Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (JROTC) Batallion, as well as the co-captain of the Rangers program. Shalain is passionate about being a positive influence on her peers, encouraging others to stay away from drugs and alcohol and informing them of the dangerous effects. Shalain hopes to attend the University of Hawaii and study humanities. “The Boys & Girls Club has helped me be the best I can be. They’ve provided me with a place where I can study to improve my academics and have encouraged me to challenge myself. Because of the Boys & Girls Club, I have grown to be an amazing leader,” said Shalain. “I am no longer scared to try new things and I’m unafraid of making mistakes because I know I will learn from every experience. I’m proud of who I am.”

Our 2018 Programs After School/Out-Of-School Hours: We provide safe, fun and affordable places for kids to go during this critical out-ofschool time. Our Clubhouses connect kids with caring, trained professionals who engage our members in enriching programs and activities. Clubhouses: Boys & Girls Club of Hawaii provides neighborhood-based centers designed solely for youth programs and activities. Our Clubhouses are open every day after school and during school breaks when kids have free time and need positive, productive outlets. Programs: Through engaging programs such as Character & Leadership Development, Education & Career Development, Health & Life Skills, Arts, and Sports, Fitness & Recreation programs, Boys & Girls Clubs of Hawaii is filling the opportunity gaps faced by many of the kids and families we serve. Partnerships: BGCH partners with families, community service organizations, school districts and government agencies to help close the opportunity gap and provide our kids with the resources and programs they need to succeed.
