Cell Phone Expectations

With the growing need for communication, the high school is adopting a tiered approach to train students to interact and not abandon interpersonal “soft skills” while in a culture with high attachment to personal devices. Students, unless specifically allowed by a teacher, are not to be on their cell phones during class time from “bell to bell.”

Inappropriate use of cell phones, including unapproved and inappropriate cell phone photography during school hours, will result in the device being confiscated.

– 9th Grade: No phones allowed from 8:00am - 3:10pm.

During the school day, phones should be kept in bags, turned off. Teachers may choose to have them in the phone-holders during class times. Teachers may ask students to use their phones for projects, otherwise, phones must be returned to an off position and stored in bags or phone-holders. Any phones used at any other times of the day will be confiscated.

– 10th Grade: Phones are allowed during lunch only.

– 12th Grade: Phones may be on the student’s person during the day and may be checked between classes and at lunch.

Any phones used at any other times (unless specified by the teacher) will be confiscated. In the classroom, because of the class time and instruction being valued, teachers may utilize the classroom cell phone pocket holders as a tool in their classroom management. The goal of this procedure is to minimize cell phone and social media distraction during class time. All students must comply and participate in the practice. The classroom cell phone pocket holders will be utilized for phones and smart watches by teachers for test assessments.

Classroom Cell Phone Pocket Holders:

1. Student places cell phone into the pocket which corresponds to their class roster number.

2. All students must participate who have a cell phone.

3. Teacher will take attendance with Cell Phone Class Pocket Holder in view and mind. if a student does not have a phone, they may respond, “I do not have a cell phone with me.” If the student is found to be dishonest concerning their phone location then HS administration will follow up.

4. Student may retrieve their phone at the end of class.

5. Photography, videoing and/or recording with a cell phone is not allowed unless approved by the teacher.
