A group of 20 survivors from a UN bunker, set on a mission to build A shelter/outpost to explore, expand and find survivors from the aftermaths of the 2035 nuclear war, to investigate the conditions of Glasgow, to report back to the UN operation Outpost ’38 in preparation to rebuild. WHY ALGAE?
Renewable Energy Source Algae can be used as a source of biofuel through a process called algae biofuel production. This renewable energy source could provide a sustainable and clean energy solution for the survivors, helping reduce dependency on traditional energy sources. Oxygen Production Algae are known for their ability to photosynthesize, producing oxygen as a byproduct. Integrating algae systems within your architectural design could contribute to oxygen generation, improving air quality and creating a more breathable environment for the survivors. 16
Water Filtration Algae can be employed in water treatment systems to filter and purify water. This could be crucial for survivors to have access to clean and safe drinking water, especially in post-disaster scenarios where water sources may be compromised. Food Production Certain types of algae are edible and rich in nutrients. Integrating algae cultivation systems could provide a sustainable source of food for the survivors, helping address nutritional needs. Other benefits include Aesthetic, Biophilic Design, Carbon Sequestation, Thermal Regulation, Material Production 17

MEMORY & ARCHIVE SOFTWARE USED | PROJECT TYPE | GALLERY EXTENSION LOCATION | 23 ACORN ST, SCOTLAND YEAR | 2022 PROJECT INFO
Moody/Contrast space that uses the existing gable roof as guides for an element of light rays to illuminate the archived models/drawings, which are placed on cubed T-shaped shelving where they can be taken and placed on to the tables to allow viewers to gather and conversate. The atmosphere is set by the materiality of the archive space and transitions to a warmer colour palette and brighter colours as the space open up to the courtyard where it pours with sunlight and follows an aesthetic form inspired by the frame structure of the existing gable roof. The archived room will also let viewers have a quiet relaxing experience towards the back of the archive as a wall separates the model area and this quiet space. This is inspired by the mood set in Le Corbusier’s studio apartment building in Paris. The courtyard will feature a tree to help bring more vegetation to the area. There is a staircase utilising the flat roof, which will be converted into a roof terrace featuring 2 tables. There is a narrow glazing display walkthrough filled with vegetation to enhance the experience and viewers will be met by a long display window featuring dress for the weather’s drawings. The display wall will be accessible to change the drawings from inside the archive room. There is also an opening at the back of the archive to create a circulation system for viewers going from the courtyard to the display walk-through.

ELEVATION
The elevation shows the connection betwween the gallery, couryard, upstairs terrace and the window openings. Allowing a seamless experience throughout these spaces.
26
FLOOR PLAN
The link between the upstairs terrace into the building suggests a smooth flow through the extension. The now opened arch connecting the courtyard to the gallery experience improves the circulation and function of these spaces. 27
