THE CITIZENS OF SOUTH-AFRICA are reflecting on June 16, the lives that were lost in Soweto 1976. Today 44 years ago we still feel the reverberation of freedom echoing in our hearts every time we stand up for justice and freedom. We are no different than those 500 youths that were killed on June 16, 1976. Because our fight remains their fight it is the fight that we want to be treated not only equal but with equity and dignity. We see youths in Washington, New York, Berlin and London taking to the streets marching in solidarity saying black people must be treated as equals. They are saying black lives matter!

For companies, the accumulation of leave days pose a fi n a n c i a l r i s k - a n d c o u l d c a u s e operational problems when everyone wants to take leave at once. According to a new survey, many SA companies have changed their holiday policies to adopt to the Covid-19 crisis. With nowhere to go during the national lockdown, many South Africans have cancelled their leave for the winter holiday. Now companies are getting worried about the build-up of leave days. When the employees

eventually leave the company or are retrenched, these days have to be paid out in cash. Accumulated leave is a liability and must be reflected on the company's balance sheet, warns Pamela Stein from the law firm Webber Wentzel.

“It is really important that people take time off for their wellbeing and health, even if it does not involve a long holiday that involves travel. During the pandemic, we may need to rethink our approach to holidays a little. Staycations and more long weekends may be a way of using leave up,” Pamela adds.

TO ALL THE DEAR FATHERS, orking in children and youth ministry I reflect upon all the shattered hearts, sad, angry or even nonchalant facial expressions when the word ‘father’ is expressed. I’m reminded of all the heart-breaking narratives of children who are so in need of the presence of their dad, but also children who want absolutely nothing to do with their father due to his absence; whether emotionally or physically. Therefore, today I would like to celebrate the ones who stuck around.

Dadda, Daddy, Dad, Papa, Pops -your different names are evidence of the versatility of your character.

Thank you to every dad who strives to be the best father. Some of you didn’t have much guidance on how to be one, yet you’re still out here correcting the mistakes of the generation that came before you. For that, I salute you. To all the ones who made mistakes, admitted their faults and fixed them, you are amazing. You are celebrated for working

tirelessly to physically provide, by putting food on the table, pay school fees and ensure that your children are well cared for.

Beyond that, well done for considering the emotional and spiritual needs of your children, by spending quality time with them, making memories, teaching them valuable life lessons or skills; or by modelling biblical character and prayers.

To all the fathers who teaches their daughters that she’s worthy of respect, love and care and teaches their sons that respecting a woman and society in general is what will make of them a ‘cool dude’, you are a game changer.

I commend you for changing the negative narratives around fatherhood.

May you be blessed and inspired to keep on doing the best you can. Your sons and daughters will certainly benefit from the investment of your presence in their lives.

I’m encouraged by men and fathers who aim to mentor, guide, inspire and teach not only their own children but also the boys and girls, in their communities who desperately need the presence of a father. To all the fathers who work hard, to build a good life for their children, we salute you. To all the fathers wondering if they’re doing a good enough job, you are.

May you be the best father you could be.

You are loved, appreciated and needed.

You are the heroes of our time.

In a glass bowl, add the couscous, butter, olive oil, salt & pepper to taste. Add boiled water until the bowl is filled 1cm above the dry couscous. Close the bowl with a lid or cling wrap and let it stand until the water is soaked up in the couscous. Serve the Asian snoek fish and vegetables with the couscous and enjoy!

QUANTITY: A small baking tray 30g Cocoa powder 60g Cake Flour (All purpose) Pinch of salt 3ml Baking Powder Handful chopped nuts (optional) 115g Butter 200g Granulated sugar 2 Eggs 7.5ml Vanilla essence

FTER A FEW MONTHS, finally managing to settle, the level of excitement within me was raging.

I couldn’t wait to get on that pitch to start playing. Mamelodi Sundowns did very well during the previous season. This meant it was going to be challenging to prove myself. In my position - which is Centre Forward or Striker as we call it these days we had 6 other players competing to be in the starting line-up. It felt like I needed to climb Mount Everest before earning the opportunity, even though the Coach guaranteed that he would at least give me a fair opportunity to play. I knew it was not going to be easy. Another reason why, even before I made the decision to join Mamelodi Sundowns, "Cape Town players seldom survive in Jozi" was in the back of my head. This statement has unfortunately proven to be true with players from Cape Town in the past.
