tella, a bright yellow sea star, lived under the sea with many other sea stars.

Stella was proud of her hard, bumpy body and five arms except for one thing: one arm was bright red!

Stella tried everything to hide her arm, but nothing worked. The other sea stars called her “ugly” and “funny-looking”. Poor Stella didn’t know what to do.

One night, Stella and the other sea stars left with their leader, King Neptune, in search of clams and oysters. When they arrived near the shore, the little ones slowly worked their way onto the beach to find clams. The older sea stars continued toward the oyster beds.

“Take care,” warned King Neptune.

“When you are finished, we’ll come back for you.”

Soon Stella had eaten several clams.

“Delicious,” she burped.

“Oh, Stella,” teased Sabrina, a beautiful, bright orange sea star.

“Help me open my clam! But don’t touch it with your red arm,” she giggled. “I don’t want you to spoil its taste!”

Poor Stella was so embarrassed she turned red all over. “I hate my red arm! I wish it were gone!”

Stella forgot her hunger and sadly inched her way back to the water.

“It makes me so angry when they tease me,” sniffled Stella. “I’m different outside, but I’m just the same as they are inside.”

“Whooosh!”

A huge wave carried Stella off.

“Help! Help!”
