It is with great pleasure that I welcome everyone to this year's Palmerston Fair. It was truly an honour to represent the Palmerston Agricultural Society as the 2019-2020 Ambassador. In light of the Covid pandemic, I was able to carry on for another year. During my reign, I had the privilege of being supported by two Junior Ambassadors, Madison Leitch, and Sophie Glendenning. This was a full-circle experience for me, as I reflected on my days as a Junior Ambassador and I hope these young ladies enjoyed our time representing the Ag Society as much as I did. We were able to participate in a number of parades, Ag Awareness Day, and many other events in the community. I had the pleasure of attending the OAAS Convention in Toronto. I will also be representing the Palmerston Ag Society at the CNE Ambassadors of the Fair Competition in August 2022. I am honoured to represent this community as one of my final Ambassador experiences.
This extended experience has been amazing and to be honest it went by quickly. I have been able to challenge myself and expand my skill with public speaking and interacting with people from all over. I have been able to meet many new people and create long-lasting friendships. Throughout this journey, I have learned about the importance of a community. I was able to be around people who strive to improve our community and make it inclusive for everyone! Once Covid hit I saw our small community pull together to do everything it could to keep everyone safe as it navigated uncertainty. The Palmerston Agriculture Society did a wonderful job being able to pivot due to the in-person restrictions, for example moving their traditional Palmerston Auction to online.
I have grown so much during this time, when I was crowned your Senior Ambassador I was in my final year of high school. Since then in the midst of a pandemic, I have completed two years of nursing. At every opportunity, I have continued to serve this community and I am grateful to all those who have mentored me on this journey. I would like to thank the Frank Lambier Legion Ladies Auxiliary for sponsoring me at the competition. Good luck to all the contestants at this year’s competition, hope to see everyone at the fair!
Rebecca Dick Palmerston Fair Ambassador 2019-2020-2021 It has been a privilege representing the Agricultural Society as one of the Junior Ambassadors. I would like to thank the Agricultural Society for all they do for our community and for giving me this opportunity as well as the Palmerston Lions Club for sponsoring me during the Ambassador competition.
I got to meet new people and make new friends. I loved spending time with my fellow Ambassadors and being more involved in my community. I had so much fun at the Palmerston fair, the pig races being my favourite, and many other events I attended throughout the year. I guess it’s true what they say “All good things must come to an end.” Wishing this year’s Ambassador competitors the best of luck. Farewell!
I was amazed when they said my name to be the Junior Ambassador. I loved meeting other ambassadors at different events with Rebecca and Sophie. The Palmerston Agricultural Society is a wonderful group of people who are kind and helpful.
Anywhere that Sophie, Rebecca and I went, we felt welcome. I enjoyed going to different events such as Light up the Park, laying a wreath for Remembrance day, decorating a cake at the Brussels Fair, Judging the sunflower entries for our Fair and many other events that I had the privilege to participate in.
I would like to thank the Town of Minto for sponsoring me. I would also like to thank The Palmerston Agricultural Society for providing the Ambassador program and allowing me the opportunity to represent them as a Junior Ambassador. Wishing the best of luck to this year’s competitors.
