I was hooked on The Gold from the very first minute. Telling the true story of one of the largest robberies in British history, The Gold is a propulsive ride from start to finish, weaving together storylines from the bank robbers, the police and the lawyers entangled in the case. The characters are instantly memorable, and I couldn’t wait to see where they ended up. If a good story well told isn’t enough of a draw, it also has a star-studded cast. Hugh Bonneville! Dominic Cooper! Jack Lowden! I hope you enjoy this show as much as I did. Passport members can binge-watch the series starting October 5, the night of its broadcast premiere. BRIAN AND MAGGIE
Journalist, Labour politician and member of Parliament, Brian Walden, was considered to be one of the finest political interviewers in the history of British broadcasting. Known for his tenacity and ruthlessness, he interviewed — in 1989 — the soon-to-be-outgoing Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, Margaret Thatcher. Having served from 1979 to 1990, she was the longest-serving British prime minister of the twentieth
century and the first woman to hold the position. At the time, Brian and Maggie were old friends, but little did they know that their friendship would never recover from their final television interview together. This two-part series depicts and delves into how it all went down. Watch part one on Sunday, October 5, at 8pm on KQED 9.
