THE NORDIC MURDERS, SEASON 6

There’ve been so many great additions to the Walter Presents collection these past few years, but The Nordic Murders remains one of my favorites — and it’s one of the most popular. The moody, cinematic crime drama returns this month after a shocking season finale. This season, former district attorney Karin Lossow remains haunted by family tragedy as she tries to pursue truth and justice on the picturesque island of Usedom in the Baltic Sea. This is a perfect series to binge-watch, with its twists, turns and cliffhangers aplenty. The Nordic Murders is exclusively available with Passport, and members can catch up on all previous seasons ahead of the Season 6 premiere on Friday, May 1. In German and Polish, with English subtitles.

Fanny: The Right to Rock

For Asian American Pacific Islander (AAPI) Heritage Month, consider revisiting this documentary about the 50-year reunion of the legendary Sacramento rock band Fanny, which was founded by three Filipina American girls in the 1970s.

The U.S. and the Holocaust

This month is also Jewish American Heritage Month. To commemorate, rewatch the powerful Ken Burns series about how America grappled with one of the greatest humanitarian crises of the 20th century.

SURVIVING

SAN FRANCISCO

Across the United States, people struggle with housing affordability and homelessness. A decades-old recourse to this problem are Single Room Occupancy (SRO) units, a form of affordable housing where residents rent small single rooms within a multi-tenant building, having to share a kitchen and bathroom with each other. How does this solution impact the lives of those who live in such cramped conditions? Filmed over six years, Home Is a Hotel illuminates and chronicles the lives of a group of San Francisco SRO residents who rely on these 80-square-foot rooms to stay housed and avoid homelessness. From KQED Presents, this intimate portrait premieres on Monday, May 11, at 9pm on KQED 9 and the PBS App.
