Foster Care Program offers a child protection and a nurturing environment in a family atmosphere, which is conducive for the healthy, normal growth of the child. The program is the non-institutional child care alternative whereby the child lives with an extended or unrelated family for temporary care. Through intense discussion with government official in few cities and literature reviews, the report captures the latest legal and policy framework on Foster Care Model, which has been presented in an easy-to-understand style so that they can be used as an effective reference material by all the stakeholders. Apart from the overall concept, mechanism, policy and legal instruments, the study also attempted to document interventions practiced in India and some other countries about individual as well as group Foster care.
