The Markets in Financial Instruments Directive (MiFID) as of 21 April 2004 is a central component of the European financial market regulation. It aims to improve investor protection, strengthen competition and harmonise the European financial markets. It came into force in 2007 and has since then been implemented and applied throughout the EU and EEA.
