oth the big and small screens are filled with villainous characters that we love to hate. TV audiences feel a smug sense of satisfaction when the ploys of such iconic villains as J.R. Ewing ("Dallas") or Mr. Burns ("The Simpsons") are foiled, while, on the big screen, baddies like Hannibal Lecter ("The Silence of the Lambs") chill our blood. Even reality TV has its share of bad guys, with three-time "Survivor" contestant Russell Hantz being perhaps the most iconic of them all. But sometimes, if you just dig a little deeper, the bad guys aren't so bad after all. Like a modern-day Robin Hood, TV's most savvy group of outlaws has returned to its thieving, grifting and hacking ways in the fifth season of "Leverage," airing Sundays on TNT. This band of merry men and women isn't out for gold to give to the poor. Instead, they're out to right the wrongs that have been inflicted on the little guys by rich and powerful corporations or by the government. The group uses their sets of unique skills to infiltrate, blackmail and bankrupt their deserving targets.

The team is led by former insurance investigator Nate Ford, who has found a new meaning to life in helping out the wronged and the downtrodden. In his previous career, he often ran against the tricks that grifters and thieves use in their scams, and he's been able to use this lifetime of knowledge to stay one step ahead of the authorities hunting his group of outlaws. Ford is played to perfection by the critically acclaimed Timothy Hutton. Hutton is an accomplished actor who won both an Academy Award and a Golden Globe for his supporting role in "Ordinary People" (1980), and he has done extensive work behind the camera, too. He made his feature-film directorial debut at the Sundance Film Festival in 1998, receiving standing ovations for his film "Digging to China." Hutton is clearly excited about the new season of "Leverage," and he spilled the beans about it in an interview with pop culture website AssignmentX.com. "For Nate, the way his father died in the finale last year, I think it's made him less connected to the past and more connected to his future and present," he explained. "Also, the theme of the fifth season is trust among the team members and the interpersonal relationships." In last week's premiere episode, titled "The (Very) Big Bird Job," we

found the team of outlaws barely having time to settle into their new Portland, Ore., headquarters before they were swept up into a new job involving a tragic plane crash, courtesy of a conniving shipping executive (guest star Carey Elwes). In a bid to prevent another airline tragedy, the crooks dreamt up what may have been their most daring con ever -- stealing the legendary Spruce Goose. Of course, Ford couldn't be expected to pull off the theft of one of the most famous aircraft in the world all by himself. His team is an eclectic group of criminal misfits who nonetheless manage to work together and use their unique sets of skills to pull off their legendary heists. Sophie Devereaux (Gina Bellman) is an enigmatic and beautiful grifter who has aspirations of being an actress. On stage or in auditions, she is a hilariously bad performer, but in the real world, when she's in the middle of a con, she can transform herself into a completely different person and pull the wool over anyone's eyes. The romantic sparks that have been building between her and Ford promise to heat up this season, but the rest of the team is reluctant to trust her too far -- they aren't even sure if Sophie Devereaux is her real name or if it's just another alias. The group's hacker is Alec Hardison (Aldis Hodge), a computer and technology genius. The man is a

miracle worker when it comes to planting bugs, hacking into accounts and creating identities, but he's not yet used to the more dangerous encounters that the team can often find itself in. For those situations there's Eliot Spencer (Christian Kane), the group's "hitter." The brawny man is a master of several martial arts styles, and he can identify the make and model of a firearm just by hearing the sound it makes. He has a softer

side, too, and, surprisingly, is a whiz in the kitchen. Beth Riesgraf plays Parker, the team's resident professional thief. The tiny woman has a warped view of the world, thanks to her troubled childhood as an orphan, but when it comes to doing something daring, like rappelling off of a roof, she's utterly without fear. Audiences can look forward to Parker and Hardison taking their blossoming romance to the next level this season, revealing what promises to be a softer side for both characters.

'Good' to be a guest CBS's hit legal drama welcomes recurring stars Byline Source 'GOOD' TO BE A GUEST: Julianna Margulies will soon celebrate an "ER" reunion on the set of her hit CBS legal drama when Maura Tierney helps her launch the new season. The network recently announced that Tierney has signed on for a recurring role on "The Good Wife," which will begin with the Season 4 premiere episode this September. For her turn on "The Good Wife," she will play a successful businesswoman who earned millions and is now one of the leaders within the Democratic Party on the Chicago political scene. Since "ER" wrapped in 2009, Tierney has starred in "Rescue Me" and "The Whole Truth" and made an appearance as Mrs. California in a 2011 episode of "The Office." The series will also welcome British thespian Marc Warren for a recurring role starting in the same episode. He will put a face to the name as Kalinda's ex-husband, who still has a hold over her. Warren is best known for his role as Danny Blue on AMC's "Hustle." He also starred as the Repairman in Angelina Jolie's 2008 action flick "Wanted" and was a part of the ensemble cast in the acclaimed 2001 miniseries "Band of Brothers." Also in the upcoming season, veteran stage and screen funnyman Nathan Lane will take a serious turn when he begins a recurring role on the series, too. His character will be a manager brought in to cut unnecessary costs at the firm, which puts him in conflict with some of the staff. The show has developed into one of the most coveted programs in the industry for guest roles. Michael J. Fox, Matthew Perry, Rita Wilson and
America Ferrera have already made appearances. It's now evident that Hollywood A-listers will just keep coming to get a piece of "The Good Wife" in the new season. BROADWAY BOUND: "Smash" show runners are pulling out the big guns by bringing in a big set of pipes to help boost ratings for the NBC musical drama when it returns to the programming lineup. The peacock network recently announced that award-winning singer and actress Jennifer Hudson will take on a multi-episode arc in "Smash's" sophomore season. In a way, series regular Katharine McPhee's professional career has mimicked that of Hudson: both women competed on "American Idol," with Hudson placing seventh in Season 3 and McPhee finishing as the runner-up in Season 5, and then went on to find more success than the winners. Additionally, Hudson and McPhee have branched out to acting work in film and television. However, Hudson's two-year head start and her Oscar, Golden Globe and Grammy wins would suggest that she has an edge on McPhee. Casting Hudson to play Veronica Moore, a Broadway sensation who already has a Tony award under her belt, seems like a natural fit, and it'll be interesting to see how her character impacts the lives of Karen (played by McPhee) and Ivy (Megan Hilty). Hudson's guest role will also serve as a reunion with Steven Spielberg, who is one of the series' executive producers through his DreamWorks outfit, which co-produced 2006's "Dreamgirls." ON THE SPIT: Comedy Central is gearing up to roast a legendary comedian who is as quirky in real life as she was on her hit television show. Roseanne Barr is next in line for the hot seat as the cabler prepares for the "Comedy Central Roast of Roseanne." Filmed the week before, the special will air on Sunday, Aug. 13. Barr is best known for having starred as the matriarch in the hit sitcom "Roseanne," which ran for nine seasons on ABC from 1988 to 1997
