Bulldog Beauty Pageant Contest Rules
Bulldog Beauty Pageant Registration Form
Wednesday, June 4th, 2014 at 7:00 pm on the Main Stage at the Canal Days Festival 1. This pageant will determine the most “beautiful” bulldog in New Haven. This is a subjective pageant and the winner will be chosen by the judges. The judges’ decision is final. 2. Pageant contestants will compete in three different categories: The Dog Walk (how well the dog walks across the stage on a leash), Swim Wear (how they look in a bathing suit), and Talent. The owner must provide a leash, swim wear, and talent. Points will be awarded for creativity and individuality. 3. The winner of the Bulldog Beauty Pageant will be invited to participate in the New Haven Canal Days Festival Parade (along with his/her owner), escorted by a member of the Corvette Club. The winner will also receive a trophy and a doggie bag of treats courtesy of the New Haven Canal Days Festival Committee. 4. The 18 year old New Haven High School Senior was recently selected as the winner from more than 40 submissions to be this year’s Face of the New Haven Canal Days Festival. The selection committee for the Face of the New Haven Canal Days Festival felt that Workman is a shining example of the very best and brightest that New Haven has to offer. Workman is ranked 11th in her graduating class and is very active in her school and community, participating in the following activities and athletics: the Mayor’s Youth Advisory Council, Student Council, Principal’s Cabinet, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Can-struction, National Honor Society, Key Club, Student Athletic Council, Captain of the Track Team, Captain of the Cross Country Team, Dance, plays slow-pitch summer softball, and is the class Treasurer. Workman is one of 8 children, and has lived her entire life in downtown New Haven. Next fall, she will attend Indiana Tech studying Math Education; she will run both cross country and track for the Warriors while a student there. 2014 New Haven’s Got Talent Show Contest Guidelines 1) Contestant may enter in only one act. 2) An entry fee of $5.00 per act MUST accompany each entry form. No entries will be accepted without the $5.00 entry fee. Checks should be made payable to the New Haven Festival Committee. 4) Professional entertainers are not eligible for competition. 5 ) Any act the exceeds the 5 minute performance time limit will disqualiďŹ ed. 6 ) A setup time of three minutes will be allowed. 7 ) A ďŹ ve minute rehearsal will be allowed per act the afternoon of the 4th. You will receive notiďŹ cation of this time by June 3rd. 8 ) All contestants must supply their own equipment with the exception of a Piano. If using a cassette tape or CD there MUST NOT be like talent on the tape: i.e. vocals, tap, instrument. 9) Any contestants who elects not to report for rehearsal must report to the grandstand stage by 6:30 pm on June 4th. 10) First place winners from each division at the 2013 contest will be ineligible for the 2014 contest. First place winners from 2013 may not return to
the 2014 contest, even in a different type of group or act. 11) There will be a panel of judges and their decision will be ďŹ nal. No Judges Score Sheet will be available to any contestants following the contest. Comment sheets will be available. 12) Judging is based on Appearance-5 points, Stage Presentation-15 points, Audience Appeal-5 points, Ability-25 points. 13) Talent show directors should be informed the day of the show if contestants will not be able to represent the Competition at the Canal Days Parade. 14) Participation will be limited to 16 acts in the competition. Participation will be on a ďŹ rst-come, ďŹ rst-guaranteed space available basis. Entries should be submitted in person or by US Mail to the New Haven-Adams Township Parks & Recreation Department, 1125 Hartzell Street, New Haven, Indiana 46774. RHETT WALKER BAND WILL BE APPEARING IN A FREE CONCERT IN SCHNELKER PARK New Haven, Indiana--The New Haven Canal Days Committee, together with the New Haven Adams Township Parks and Recreation Department and WBCL 90.3 FM, is pleased to announce that Grammy and GMA Dove Award nominated Southern and Christian Rock band, the Rhett Walker Band, will be appearing in a free concert in Schnelker Park during the 2014 Canal Days festival on June 7th. This will be the festival’s 2nd inaugural Faith & Family Night, which aims to bring together all generations and all denominations to celebrate the community of New Haven, Indiana. In 2013, the bands Love & the Outcome and the Sidewalk Prophets drew an estimated crowd of 4,000 to New Haven for an evening in the park; concertgoers came from as far away as Ontario (Canada), Pennsylvania, and Iowa to enjoy the show. “Come to the River”, the Rhett Walker Band’s debut album, released to wide critical acclaim in 2012. The album’s debut single, “When Mercy Found Me”, garnered the band a Grammy nomination for Contemporary Christian Music’s song of the year in 2012; the band was later nominated for GMA Dove Awards for New Artist of the Year, Rock/ Contemporary Album of the Year and Rock/Contemporary Song of the Year in 2013. The album-titled single was released in 2013 and charted in the Billboard Top 20. Rhett Walker, the enigmatic lead singer of the band, is known for being unlike any other rising Christian artist you have ever met or will ever meet again. The outspoken 27 year old son of a preacher is Southern-born and raised, which is reflected in his soulful voice that melds the tones of both Georgia and the Carolinas. His personal story, which defines the music of the Rhett Walker Band, has been described by many critics as a shining example of faith, family, and country in an increasingly modern world. While Walker’s music serves as a catalyst for sharing that grace comes with a calling, just a decade ago few would have predicted this would be his own calling in life. “We moved away from my hometown when I was 16, and I

didn’t like that. I just went nuts, doing whatever I wanted to do in the moment,” said Walker. “I mixed with the rough crowd, got into fights and June 3rd-June 7th, 2014 drugs. It wasn’t long before I was expelled from school—just always in trouble. So they sent me to this Christian school, the only one that would take me, and I met this girl. It wasn’t long after that we found out she was pregnant. That was the stop in the path for me.” Even though Walker had grown up in church, even playing the drums in a praise band, he admits that he just generally stopped caring. When presented with a ton-of-bricks reality at 17, Rhett could stay on the downward spiral or step up. He stepped up. “It was like, Man, what am I doing?” he remembers. “I’ve still got my senior year left, but I’ll have to leave this religious school where I’m high most of the time anyway. My girlfriend’s having a baby, and I have no job. I finally sat down with April, who is now my wife, and said: We’ve done everything wrong that we possibly can. Let’s do everything right from here on out.” By all appearances, Walker has made good on that promise. He will bring his story (and his band) to Schnelker Park in New Haven on June 7th, 2014 at 7 pm. Carrollton, a Centricity Music Label artist originally from Cincinnati, Ohio, will open for the Rhett Walker Band on June 7th. The New Haven Canal Days Festival committee has launched a special Indiegogo campaign to assist with the funding of Faith & Family Night and hopefully establish this event as an ongoing, annual tradition for the community.
