To those of you who are underclassmen, here’s a disclaimer: everything I tell you in the following two lines is something you’ll hear a minimum of one hundred more times before you graduate yourself. You probably won’t believe me at this very moment, but one day you will. Take it for what it’s worth.

High school is hard to explain, but what I learned from it is simple: Take full advantage of life and the moments spent with everyone in it. Everything else will fall into place.

Sometimes the best thing you can do is to move away from the status quo. Be yourself and give everything your all, and if life doesn’t pan out the way you imagined, at least you have the satisfaction of knowing you did everything you could.

It’s from a song by Say Anything called ‘”Belt.” The song is a metaphor for never giving up your creativity and your individuality no matter how much people want you to conform. The belt is a homonym for a belt that you wear and your belt like your voice that you should never sell to fit in.

Favorite High School Memory

I spent the first three years wishing I could graduate, and the last year just wishing I had a little more time. It is so easy to just simply “go through the motions of high school.” However, when you make the most of your experience, it can be incredibly rewarding. Go all in! Get involved, try new things and do not stick with something you do not enjoy doing. Find your passion, develop it and enjoy every moment you have. Four years is all you get.

A favorite memory for me in high school would be all of the bus rides to and from sports with my teammates. All of the games are memories I’ll never forget.

Obviously, it is super important to do your homework and try your hardest to get good grades but you cannot just shut yourself in your room for 10 hours a day and study, you also need to leave time for your family, for your friends, for sports or other teams that you want to participate in, or for your job if you have one.

It is important that you don’t miss out on all the opportunities to make truly good, lasting memories because you are too focused on one single thing.

Spend time with people you normally wouldn’t hang out with, or get involved with clubs even if your friends don’t follow. You’ll meet a lot more people and make a lot of new friends along the way!

Favorite High School Memory My favorite memories from high school are the times I spent with lots of friends just having fun!

Long bonfires, late night runs to Steak n’ Shake, playing games in someone’s basement, group trips to the movies, and, of course, the state basketball game! Lots of fun and good times with friends!

My favorite high school memory happened during history class my junior year when my teacher gave us a motivational speech with the background music being “Roar” by Katy Perry. He blasted the music and then challenged us all to be the best we could be in the world that we lived in. It was incredible, impressionable, and very memorable.
