Carroll graduate to reign over 2015 county fair By Garth Snow gsnow@kpcmedia.com
Erica Hoot will wear the tiara of Miss Allen County 2015 and reign over the fair, July 28-Aug. 2 Hoot, 19, was crowned at the pageant Sunday evening at Carroll High School, where she graduated in 2014. The pageant was the second for Hoot, who said she made friends during both pageants. “I already knew some girls and I met people from all around the county, and I believe that I made friendships for the rest of our time at the fair and hopefully for a long time after that,” she said. Twelve contestants sought the title of Miss Allen County. Three judges awarded up to 50 points to each contestant after private interviews before the pageant, 20 points for professional wear, and 30

The annual Allen County Fair is expected to be bigger and better than ever this summer. The weeklong fair will return July 28 for its 26th year. Complete with 4-H competitions, food vendors, rides, live music and truck pulls, each day is packed full of activity. “It’s a really unique experience because you have all of the 4-H animals and exhibits as well as a full carnival and activities for all family members,” said Michelle Love, pageant director for the fair and secretary for the Allen County Fairgrounds board. “We really try to tailor the event as something that is open to people of all ages.” A new event introduced this year will be the ATV stunt show featuring Henry Rife, otherwise known as the

Luann Watson listed and described the activities, and then told what she enjoys most about working with Salomon Farm summer campers. “They just get to be kids,” she said. Watson, the camp supervisor, also explained the connection between the Wednesday evening farmers market in the Dupont Road park’s historic barn and the summer camps. The camps have been offered each summer since 2002, just six years after Chris Salomon and family donated the house, barn and land to the Fort Wayne Parks Department. “The market continues to expand as part of the mission stated when Mr. Salomon left this farm to
