Just over a year old, the project developing 100 acres on St. Joe Center Road, west of Maplecrest Road, is showing signs of life. Officials for the Allen County Department of Planning Services say the 100-acre area includes two projects – a 72-acre residential and commercial development project spearheaded by real estate developer Don Steininger and a nearly 30-acre community recreational facility built by St. Joseph United Methodist Church, whose church is nearby on Reed Road. The two-year old park project came to fruition when the park in July. The 29 ½-acre park was created from 30 acres of farmland purchased from two sisters who wanted their land to be used for something serene and peaceful. The church envisioned the park to be a place for families in the community to gather and grow together through recreation. The park features a basketball court, a softball diamond, two soccer fields, an amphitheater and plenty

The St. Joe Center Road bridge renovations hit the half-way point Aug. 13 when work on the north side of the bridge was completed. At that time, eastbound traffic was shifted to the north side of the bridge in order for work to begin on the structure’s south side. Phase one of the $3.4million project, originally slated to be completed in June, is slightly behind schedule said Bill Hartman, director of the Allen County Highway Department. “Due to high water delays during foundation construction and utility relocation delays, the north half of the bridge deck was placed behind

Walkers, runners and bikers can now take advantage of a 10-foot wide trail on the north side of the St. Joe Center Road bridge, shown on the left. Construction on the south side of the bridge is expected to continue throughout the fall.
