West County
West County: Region Overview
Belle Glade is rich in culture and history, anchored by landmarks like the Dolly Hand Cultural Arts Center at Palm Beach State College, where the community gathers for plays, concerts, ballets, and even business forums. The Lawrence E. Will Museum further tells the story of the region, preserving artifacts from the prehistoric Belle Glade Culture and tracing the area’s evolution through agriculture, water management, and settlement. Together, these institutions celebrate the Glades’ heritage while serving as vital centers for education and community connection.
The region also comes alive through its festivals and traditions. Events such as the Grassy Waters Festival, Afro Arts Festival, Black Gold Jubilee, and the Pahokee Heritage Music Festival showcase the area’s vibrant spirit. And for many residents, nothing compares to the excitement of high school football—especially the annual Muck Bowl between Glades Central and Pahokee High. This legendary rivalry has not only energized the community for decades but has also produced a remarkable number of state championships and NFL players.
“Palm Beach County is a beautiful place to live and raise a family...We live where we grew up because we love this county. Why would we ever leave?”
Mike Schlechter President & Managing Partner at Everglades Equipment Group
