GEORGINA RESKALA PAST IMPERFECT
“it’s not true, yes, it’s true and it’s not true, there is silence and there is not silence.....” Becket Between art and nature, photograph and reality. What is and what we are able to perceive sometimes meet at a point of recognition. My work is a cumulative record of my perceptions and observations over time and space Like a slow writer of a long fictional chapter trying to painstakingly put down on paper those moments before they flee, deciphering the signs and symbols; their meaning and their deictic references. Creating a dialogue in the void, piece by piece. In this body of work I try to stop the transient moments, pay attention to intermittence, slow down almost to a halt. People and memories flee, transform as we try to cling to the traces and resonances. The intimacy with tangible materials and the engagement with making silver gelatine prints as well as objects with different materials, restores value to contemplation and slowing down. With the use of my own recycled images as well as found and family photographs, I print, re- shoot, take them apart in an effort to reference a residue lost from its antecedent, to resist an immediate interpretation and hope that the viewers are able to witness a glimpse of the impenetrable in the ordinary.
