26 SAY – TELL say say something = říct něco say to somebody = říci někomu (musí následovat předložka „to“) tell tell somebody = říci někomu (nesmí následovat předložka „to“) Poznámka: V angličtině existují ustálená spojení, ve kterých toto pravidlo neplatí. Jde na příklad o následující výrazy: tell the truth = říct pravdu tell a lie = říct lež, lhát tell a joke = říct vtip tell the difference = postihnout rozdíl tell the time = říct správný čas (kolik je hodin) Vzorové příklady: Say a few words. = Řekněte několik slov. Tell us something interesting. = Řekni nám něco zajímavého. Say something interesting to us. = totéž He didn’t say it correctly. = Neřekl to správně. He didn’t tell us about it. = Neřekl nám to (o tom). He said “Hello!” = Řekl „Ahoj!“ Tell me how much it costs. = Řekni mi, kolik to stojí. What did she say? = Co řekla? I want to tell you something / say something to you. = Chci ti něco říct. He told us a story about the king. = Řekl nám příběh o králi. What are you going to say to him / tell him? = Co se mu chystáš říct? Did he tell them about it? = Řekl jim o tom? He doesn’t want to tell us what she said yesterday evening. = Nechce nám říct, co řekla včera večer.

Tvoření: will (zkráceně ’ll) + sloveso v základním tvaru I will (I’ll) write, he will (he’ll) speak, we will (we’ll) buy Zápor: I will not (won’t) write, he will not (won’t) speak, we will not (won’t) buy Otázka: will you write?, will he speak?, will we buy?

When will you live in Sydney? = Kdy budeš bydlet v Sydney? She won’t work tomorrow. = Zítra nebude pracovat. I think I will / I’ll phone you. = Myslím, že vám zavolám. It will be sunny tomorrow. = Zítra bude slunečno. People will live on another planet in 2050. = V roce 2050 budou lidé žít na jiné planetě.
