Safari Afrika er især kendt for sine store mængder dyr og den høje biodiversitet. De mest søgte pattedyr er ofte løver, elefanter og næsehorn, men du kan få lige så store oplevelser med gnuer, zebraer, giraffer og de talrige farverige fuglearter.

Afrejse til Cape Town.

Cape Town Pretoria Rovos Rail, The Pride of Africa: Pretoria til Victoria Falls. Du stiger ombord til en klassisk, elegant stil og indretning, som selv den mest forvÌnte vil bifalde - dette er ganske enkelt ultimativ luksus. Toget forlader perronen tidligt pü formiddagen og du pübegynder den legendariske tre-dages togrejse, mens du sidder i udkigsvognen med en drink i hünden og nyder de smukke landskaber. Ruten gür nordover mod Bela Bela og krydser Stenbukkens Vendekreds lige efter Soekmekaar-station. Efter at have krydset Soutpansberg-bjergene, nord for Makhado, kommer du ind i �baobab-land�.

De sydafrikanske grÌnseformaliteter klares ved Musina, og derefter fortsÌttes over Beit Bridge og ind i Zimbabwe. Videre i nordvestlig retning gennem Thompson’s Junction til Hwange Game Reserve, hvor der er afsat tid til game drive tidligt om morgenen. Hwange er den meste vildtrige park i Afrika og byder pü store horder elefanter, bøer og alle The Big Five. Undervejs bor du i en veludstyret, luksuriøs kupÊ med eget badevÌrelse. Om aftenen er püklÌdningen mere formel.

Safarioplevelser pü nogle af Sydafrikas absolut bedste lodges og udsøgt klasse pü stilfulde Rovos Rail. En feinschmecker-rejse, der er i sit helt eget format. Komfort, transport og oplevelser forenes i et helt igennem uforglemmeligt rejseindhold i Sydafrika, der rummer alle ingredienserne til dit livs rejse. Dag 1: Afrejse til Johannesburg Dag 2-4: Timbavati Private Game Reserve. (Ngala Lodge 4*) Allerede ved ankomsten til Hoedspruit slür roen Ên ‌ der er bush sü langt øjet rÌkker og er man først indenfor Orpen gaten er der ikke lÌngere hegn, og man begynder allerede hÊr at møde dyr. Ngala Lodge er medlem af Small Luxury Hotels of the World beliggende i hjertet af Krßger National Park. Ingen sover L�NGE P� .GALA n SLET IKKE DYRENE +L bliver man vÌkket, og starter morgenen i et smukt skÌr fra den tidlige morgensol med en kop kaffe eller the pü fÌlleshuset’s skønne terasse. Herefter tager I pü 4 timers gamedrive (safari). Game drives foregür i übne landrovers med erfarne rangers. Nür I kommer tilbage til lodgen er der dÌkket op til morgenmad.

Dagen er til ren afslapning – ved poolen eller müske for de mere eventyrlystne med en spÌndende fodsafari ledsaget af en bevÌbnet ranger. Sent pü eftermiddagen skal I igen pü gamedrive. Mens tusmørket sÌnkes, gøres stop for en drink, hvorefter turen gür langsomt tilbage mod lodgen. Indhyllet i den afrikanske nat, kun oplyst af lanterne og tusindvis af stjerner, nydes derefter en fantastisk middag.

Dag 5-6: Pretoria, sen eftermiddag er der ankomst til Johannesburg, hvorfra der er transport til Pretoria. Overnatning pĂĽ Irene Country Lodge 4*.

Dag 6-8: Rovos Rail – ’The Pride of Africa’ Med en stil og indretning, som selv den mest krÌsne vil nikke ANERKENDENDE TIL lNDER ) HER DEN ULTIMATIVE luksus. Kawaza Village is located in the Luangwa Valley. Since 1989 Robin Pope Safaris has supported education of the children in the Nsefu Village area - forming the charity the Kawaza School Fund. Starting with Kawaza School, this project has the reputation in Zambia of being a great example of how tourism can contribute directly to a community. You can stay anything from a night to around seven nights as a guest at the village.

You sleep in a mud hut, on a mattress with a mosquito net and bedding. The loo is a thunderbox over a hole and you bath using hot water in a large bucket. Towel, soap provided. The food is delicious - all local and cooked by the ladies at the village.

3 TUJATANE Tujatane (founded by Vanessa Parker) has grown from a 15 student pre-school to a primary school with over 160 students. Within a 5km radius of Kakuyu farm is a 170 bed hospital (1km North), numerous schools (3-5km South), both primary and secondary, an orphan care centre (4km South) serving 7000 orphans, as well as small scale agricultural projects, tree planting projects and ground water projects. The De Hoop Nature Reserve forms part of a World Heritage Site characterised by a rich biodiversity and rare species of Fynbos flora. A 19km valley stretches across the reserve and is home to abundant birdlife, including pelicans that seasonally breed on its waters. The De Hoop Marine Reserve beyond the shoreline offers some of the best whale viewing in the world, with large numbers of the Southern Right Whale population coming to the bay each year to breed.

Khwai Tented Camp is a small 8 bedded camp situated along the Khwai River designed for the luxury camper with large Meru tents, but offering a real African experience. The main focus is wildlife including walking and game drives to the legendary Moremi Game Reserve but there is also a cultural visit to a bushman village. Nkwali is located on private land, overlooking the National Park. The area surrounding Nkwali is superb game viewing country, with a beautiful area of ebony woodland and open grasslands. Driving loops in this area often see as much wildlife behind the camp as in the park - including leopard, lion and occasionally wild dog.

Thakadu River Camp is set within the riverine canopy of the Marico in the Madikwe Game Reserve and is a community-owned tented safari camp. The 12 tented suites open onto a private viewing deck overlooking the river and are decorated in an ‘Afro-Asian Safari” feel with the use of natural stone in the main lodge.

The area conserves the endangered painted dog.

The chalets are large, cool and spacious, with a great view of the river. The front of the room is open during the day and then closed by a grill doors at night. The bar area, right on the edge of the Luangwa banks, is built around a huge ebony tree with fantastic views of the river and across to the park.

4 SIRIKOI CAMP Sirikoi is a beautiful game lodge built on private land, surrounded by the Lewa Wildlife Conservancy, on the northern slopes of Mount Kenya. Katavi National Park remains one of the greatest wildlife experiences of Africa. Miles from anywhere, it has an almost mythical status and close to the greatest density of mammals in any Tanzanian reserve. Massed on the plains are the last great herds of buffalo in East Africa, reaching 1000 head.

3 MAHALE MOUNTAINS

There are few places left on earth that might rightfully be called Eden, and the Mahale Mountains is one of them. The mountains soar to 8,000 feet above the clear waters of Lake Tanganyika, which at 420 miles long and 30 miles wide, is a veritable inland sea. The nearest road is almost 100kms away, and that is the most minor of tracks.

The Selous Game Reserve encompasses 55,000 square kilometers of wilderness. Over twice the size of the Kruger National Park, the Selous Reserve is one of the largest wildlife sanctuaries anywhere. The Selous is world renowned for its wild character and large populations of elephant and buffalo, its lion, leopard, crocodile and endangered painted dog. Within this special place, deep in its southern reaches and far from anyone else, you find Lukula Selous.

Set on a wide curve of the Rufiji River, Sand Rivers Selous has been a well-loved, off-the-beaten-track location for safari buffs since the 1980s when founder Richard Bonham first discovered the spot on one of his famous portered walking safaris. Sausage Tree Camp is nestled amongst massive winter thorn trees on the banks of the Zambezi River in the Lower Zambezi National Park, Zambia. Because of its remoteness, layout and decor, Sausage offers an eclectic combination of luxury, wilderness, and both river and land safari activities. 1 &BEYOND XARANNA OKAVANGO DELTA CAMP Xaranna Okavango Delta Camp is set in a private wilderness concession of 25 000 hectares (61 800 acres) to the southeast of the Moremi Wildlife Reserve in the centre of one of the most unique regions in the world, the Okavango Delta.

Renowned for its lush waterways and abundant wildlife, the Okavango is home to a number of aquatic and land species, including the large African predators.

Located in northern Botswana, the Okavango River is a unique natural phenomenon - fl owing more than 1 000 km (620 miles) from its source in Angola, this river disappears beneath the sands of Botswana, creating a lush inland delta in the midst of this otherwise arid country. 1 KILIMANJARO CLIMB – AFRICAN ENVIRONMENTS Seven nights on the mountain gives you plenty of time to acclimatize and a greater chance of reaching the summit. Try the new Moir Route using the Shira Plateau and onto the Arrow Glacier to the final summit at 19,340 feet. If you have slightly less time then 5 nights on the mountain on the more traditional Machame Route using the Barafu ascent is available but you must have a good level of fi tness and experience with high altitude. Accommodation is in state-of-the-art mountain dome tents, all meals are cooked for you and all you need to carry is a light day-pack, porters carry the rest.

2 TREKKING – AFRICAN LATITUDES An 8 day Loita Hills Trek gives a perfect mix of wildlife and cultural experience. The trek begins with game viewing in Masai Mara Game Reserve and then a walking safari with Masai guides in their homeland progressing through a variety of fast changing landscapes, from the indigenous Loita forest onto the plains and up the Nguruman Escarpment. There is in-depth cultural contact with the Masai on the trek to the edge of the Rift Valley and down onto the hot valley fl oor. Walks are up to 15 km per day with plenty of stops to appreciate the surroundings and talk with the people. Donkeys carry equipment and luggage so you only need to carry your own daypack.

The 10 days Northern Tanzania trek is for the outdoors person who wants to get off the classic safari route and appreciate the beauty of the landscape and wildlife but still include some cultural interaction. Discover famous Ngorongoro Crater and the fantastic variety of wildlife in the Serengeti, then trek in the Gol mountains, across the Salei plains, continue with the Masai guides down into the Rift Valley to meet the local tribes and see Lake Natron’s fl amingoes and climb Lengai, an active volcano.

Lengai is steep and quite strenuous but there is an alternative walk to spectacular waterfalls for those who prefer.

PRIMATES Trek into dense tropical forest lured by the exhilaration of encountering a family of gorillas or chimpanzees. It is one of the most life-changing wildlife adventures ever sitting and observing a family of gorillas as they interact, feed, suckle their young and play. It’s similarly a humbling experience to be part of a chimpanzee troop. Habituated groups of both primates are now accessible in both West and Central Africa along with a variety of levels of accommodation.

1 CLOUDS MOUNTAIN GORILLA LODGE Clouds Mountain Gorilla Lodge lies high up on Nteko Ridge, on the edge of the Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park. The secret interior of the rainforest here provides perfect habitat for around 330 Mountain gorillas, roughly half of the worlds’ total population. Bwindi is the only forest in Africa to have chimps and gorillas co-exisiting. Activities include gorilla trekking, guided forest walks and community visits. 1 SELINDA RESERVE Selinda Camp was completely rebuilt and reopened in 2007 to acclaim. It is a small, wonderful, luxury tented safari camp that is situated on the banks of the eastern Selinda Spillway - a waterway that links Botswana’s Okavango Delta to the Linyanti and Kwando marshes, rivers and fl oodplains. The shaded camp is raised a meter or so off the ground and offers extraordinary views over the fl oodplains, waterways and wide open savannas which are only broken by attractive palm islands. It is these views that are one of Selinda’s most compelling features.

The Camp is also the only premier styled Camp in Botswana (if not Africa) to totally derive all power from its array of solar panels behind the camp. National Geographic Adventure magazine in its November 2008 edition has just honoured Zibadianja as one of the world’s top 50 eco-lodges and Tatler Magazine has recognised Zibadianja Camp as one of it’s top 101 hotels and lodges anywhere. The camp inherited its name from the old Zibalianja Camp. Zarafa literally means “the beloved one” or “the lovely one”.

The true story of Zarafa is of a giraffe presented to Charles X of France in 1826 by the Viceroy of Egypt. Zarafa was a giraffe that inspired all who came to see her. The new Zarafa Camp does all that and more.

Linyanti Bush Camp is a small, intimate 12 bedded tented camp on the banks of the Linyanti marshes in a private reserve which borders the western boundary of Chobe in Botswana. The camp is limited to small exclusive groups who seek a personalized experience in a private concession away from the main tourist routes. Activities from the camp consist of game drives, walking, spot lighting and hides. This safari camp provides the perfect atmosphere for an authentic and wild safari experience.

The 4x4 open game-viewing Landcruisers have been designed for comfort with only four to five guests per vehicle. This ensures increased maneuverability for better viewing, photography and an easy environment in which to communicate with the highly experienced guides. All Mara Plains guides are Kenya Professional Safari Guides Association qualified. They are from the area and thus possess intricate knowledge of the local flora and fauna as well as the tribal traditions and customs of the people.

In the style of Jack’s original camps, is a large and comfortable thatched library, lounge and dining area; here guests can relax and enjoy the serenity and peace of this enchanting area. Camp Kalahari has ten Meru tents, including a family unit comprising two twin tents with an inter-leading bathroom. Activities are the same as Jack’s Camp and are guided by a team of local expert Guides.

The twelve East African style tents are en suite and are comfortably furnished with king or twin beds. Mantobeni does not cater for children under 12 years. 4 SAILE TENTED CAMP Saile Tented Camp is a small 8 bedded tented camp designed on the Hemingway style Meru East African tents. The camp is situated on the river banks of the Linyanti in a private concession bordering Chobe National park. The camp caters for the guest who appreciates small groups or private family safaris with their own private guide. This is a true luxury out of Africa “camping out” experience. 6 SAVUTE ELEPHANT CAMP In the heart of the Chobe National Park, well-known for the large number of bull elephant in the region and often called the elephant capital of the world, lies Savute Elephant Camp with its twelve luxurious “tented boudoirs”. Overlooking a very busy waterhole, the camp offers spectacular game viewing of large herds of elephant in their natural habitat. The endangered painted dog, lion, giraffe, buffalo, zebra, wildebeest, cheetah and hyaena are all to be found at Savute. Guests may also enjoy a traditional meal under the starry sky in the “boma”, or visit ancient and rare Bushman rock paintings, stopping off en route to marvel at the small forest of African “upside-down” Baobab trees.

1 LOISABA STAR BEDS A place of deep serenity, Loisaba attracts big game just as it attracts guests; both groups know they will be safe and well looked after, free to roam unconfined and undisturbed. Star Beds are unique to Loisaba, imagine four-poster beds on raised platforms with only the boundless equatorial sky for a ceiling. Located in two different parts of the reserve the first beds are found amidst a rocky hill overlooking a waterhole. The second site is right on the banks of the Ewaso N’giro River, cantilevered over the fl owing river below. Sleep under a million stars and awaken to find elephant swimming in the pool below you, timid wart-hog and gazelle waiting their turn on the sidelines. The Star Beds are reached by one of many options; on foot, horse, camel or by vehicle and staying at both locations creates an opportunity to travel between them and the main Loisaba Lodge. This wilderness is home to more than 260 species of birds and 50 species of wildlife.

2 KUBU ISLAND A unique opportunity to combine nights at Jack’s Camp, San Camp or Camp Kalahari with an epic quad bike journey across the pans including two nights spent sleeping out under the stars amongst the boulders and baobabs on Kubu Island. The island itself has terraced slopes with fossil beaches of wave-rounded pebbles, providing startling evidence of the prehistoric lake’s former water levels, and crowned with an array of ancient, gnarled baobabs and surrounded on three sides by emptiness.

LOISABA STAR BEDS KUBU ISLAND

The best way to get across the saltpans is to quad bike. Setting off early in convoy, bikes carry bedrolls, food and water, looking like a long-range desert patrol.

The camp staff arrive at Kubu first; boiling a cauldron of water for the shower and setting up the drinks tray.

Dinners are three course culinary extravaganzas, laid out on white damask table-linen, decked with fine glassware and bone-handled silver. The next two days are spent exploring the fascinating surrounding salt pans.
