What is guild?
Koneenrakennuskilta
Theevents.Guild was founded in 1974 and it has around 700 members. Every year about 70 new fresher start studying mechanical engineering in LUT, off which nearly all become members of the KRK. Together with the student union, fresher are guided to be charming ‘koneteekkari’, mechanical engineering students. KRK’s official color is orange which is also the color of our overalls.
Guild activities are surprisingly important and purposeful, even for guild activists. Visible activities (parties, events and activities) are only a small part of this great mission that the Guild of Mechanical Engineers is doing. A big focus of the guild's activities is also student advocacy and educational development. The guild works hard with the management of the education program to ensure that the future mechanical engineering graduates are the sharpest in their field, and are hired by every company that wants to hire them. In addition, the guild also tries to balance the burden of studying by organising various events. The most prominent of these are sauna nights organised by the host and hostess, excursions to companies in the sector and parties with different themes. These events are a big part of Lappeenranta's teekkari culture and you can't help but recognise teekkari or freshers with the orange overalls in the hustle and bustle of the Theevents.Guild also seeks to build relationships with the management of the programme and the university, as well as with various companies. These connections can, at best, lead to summer jobs or valuable relationships for students, which are a big part of modern employment. This relationship building is marketed to the incoming student as an ongoing networking activity. Its role is extremely important in the world of work as well as in staying in school. It is important to get to know students from different disciplines and build relationships for the future. Along side all of this, you'll often find lifelong friendships that will maintain the relationship with your place of study, Lappeenranta.
The most visible part of our collaboration with companies is the orange overalls that you incoming fresher will receive during the autumn or early spring. The company logos on these are sold advertising to get the company's name in front of the future top engineering talent. These overalls are also the most visible emblem of the Lappeenranta mechanical engineering, who are now known throughout most of Finland.
ry is the subject organization for mechanical engineering students in Lappeenranta University of Technology, LUT. It is loosely translated Machine Building Guild. In Finnish technical universities, all subject associations are called guilds. Our Guild is founded to plead the case of its members in university’s and student union’s matters and also to arrange different kinds of parties, sauna evenings and educational

Hello and congratulations on getting in at mechanical engineerings program in LUT university. I’m Rasmus our guilds so called ”fuksivastaava” which means that i’m in charge on getting you fresher to the right places at the right time. Mostly on the things that happend after school but why not Myboth.path to this place starts from Espoo. Little by little I moved more and more facing east and now I think this is the most that i can do at least inside Finnish borders. Before coming to Lappeenranta I was in the military in Kouvola and thought that officers job would suit me better but here we are, starting my second year on mechanical engineering studies and I dont think I’m leaving any time soon.
As I mentioned earlier I’m responsible for informing you what kind of after school program there is, where and what time. You don’t have take stress from any of that stuff everything is optional and its more like a suggestion if you’re intrested in that stuff.
Greetings from fresher captain
Me and Aino are here for you and if you have any questions we’re happy to talk. You will recognise me from the orange helmet and orange overalls. If you have something and I’m not available you can literally ask anyone with a orange overalls and if even they cant answer your question at least they’ll point you in the right direction. I’m happy to welcome you to LUT university and eager to meet you at the orientation weeks.

Studying in Finland and in LUT specifically has been a wonderful, eye opening experience for me! The quiet of a small city compared to where I'd lived was a lovely change and the proximity of the city to various nature trails has got me excited to go out more and explore. Some memorable moments I've had in the past year was definitely the sitz parties, experiencing the glory (and stifling heat) of the Finnish sauna, and the sleepless winter nights hunting for northern lights. So yes, 10/10 would recommend this place. Anyways, I hope you have a wonderful time at LUT. Looking forward to get to know you
• Occasionally, I bake/steam cakes ranging from cheesecakes to kueh lapis. That said, I have an irrational distrust of my own oven

Rachel Sutanto Hi there!
The more important faces in terms of starting their studies, such as board members and officials, come next. This section introduces your future tutors by name and face. When the autumn comes, the fresher will be divided into fresher groups and each group will have its own tutor, but of course in case of problems, each tutor will help in the same way.
I'm Rachel, a second year Mechanical Engineering Bachelor's student. I'm Singaporean, but also spent quite a bit of time in Germany, so I can speak English and (mispronounced) German. SEA gang represent!
Someall! random facts about me:
• I used to know Mandarin, but somehow forgot most of it. As of writing, I can only write approx. 150 characters correctly and know their meaning. Don't even get me started on the tones
introduction of tutors

Martta Ikonen Hello hello!
Hey, my name is Olivia Kuusman. I am a third year Mechanical Engineering Bachelor’s student. I am originally from Pori, Finland. Currently, I live in Lappeenranta while studying. Some of my favorite activities are trekking and going on jogs. There are quite a few good running spots around campus. That is one reason I decided to study at LUT. I enjoy being surrounded by nature and having the opportunity to go out and enjoy the surrounding nature after lectures.
My name is Martta, I'm 20yrs old I come from a small town called Nummela (finland) Best memories: the fresher weeks & FinnHits Facst: I love sailing but I'm lowkey afraid of the ocean. And I always have bruises on my legs. Olivia Kuusman
One of my favorite memories here at LUT is meeting new people from around the world and having the opportunity to connect with students. Here at LUT I’ve made lifelong friendships and met some of my closest friends. I am excited about meeting you soon!

Golnoosh Aghamohammadi MyHello, name is Golnoosh Aghamohammadi. I'm from Iran. I'm a second year mechanical engineering master's student. I really like Lappeenranta because of its nature. It is a very affordable city for student life too. I enjoy hanging around with my friends on campus. I think the LUT campus is a complete place for every student because of its facilities like a very calm and big library, restaurants, TEK lounge, gyms, etc. Last winter, when outside was too cold and dark for a long time, I spent most of my time with my friends on campus. We used to gather at TEK lounge and play Mafia or watch a movie. Also, we were in the guild for a coffee and talking, it was the best way for making new friends. Last year because of COVID, there weren't many events on campus, I hope this year we have more fun.
Hello! I’m Andrea and I’m from the north of Colombia. I am now a second year Mechanical Engineering student and I’ve had an amazing time here in Lappeenranta. I’ve met so many people from many different places that have taught me a lot and one of my favorite experiences has been Wappu, trying sledging for the first time at Liugur with my friends was really fun, and I’d repeat that experience as many times as I can (even though I am an indoors person and hate sports).

I am from Finland but I have lived 10 years in China prior to moving to Lappeenranta. My favourite memory from LUT is shadowing Wappu sits in a trailer sauna. Outside of school I snowboard, skydive and mess around with motorbikes.

This is Fereshte Mohammadi Khoshoue and I come from Iran. I’m a second year master student in mechanical engineering. One of the best thing about Lappeenranta is its nature. it's really beautiful and peaceful. About the campus, the atmosphere is really friendly and both students and staff try to help each other to improve the quality of studying and social life Also, there are different events in LUT like wappu or welcome fresher,... which add more excitement, fun and socialization to student life.”

KRK guild room
Our guild room has sofas for socialising, and table space for solving tricky brain teasers and playing the royal card game, Moska. For comfort, there's an almost decorative magazine like cleanliness and zen, and a range of memorabilia adorning the walls. The music is played by the best sound wave combinations of our time, designed in laboratory conditions to work equally well for every musical taste. In the Guild Room, you can often find older scientists to ask for tips on assignments or other life questions. If there's nothing earth shattering to ask, you can chat freely about less pressing You'rematters.always welcome to hang out and have a coffee in the Guild Room.
The guild room is looked after by Oiva Korpela and Olli Lampio, but also by the users themselves.

KRK's vehicles The guild's vehicles include downhill cars, moped and, most recently, a snowmobile. In winter, you can take a guild snowmobile to the ice of Lake Saimaa to go fishing, for example. You can see the moped at many events and experience its wonderful two stroke smell. Make and model: Ockelbo Year of manufacture: very old 0 100: Really fast Compression ratio: no longer identifiable. Downhill car race KRuisinKi
We have many different events throughout the year but this is our main event.
The winner of both series will have their name on the prestigious KRuisinKi trophy and of course champagne will be sprayed on the podium. Freshers are always involved in the organisation of the event, as it takes some manpower to organise this event. So let's plan our drives for future KRuisinKsi on the line!
WHAT!? KRuisinKi is a hill car race for the whole family, with no lack of speed! It will be held in the heart of Lappeenranta. Some say it's better than the Monaco Grand Prix and why not, it's completely free to enter!
KRuisinKi has two series; the General series and the Repair series. In the General Series, you will compete with the Mechanical Engineering Guild's hillcars and in the Repair Series, you will compete with self built hillcars that are within the rules. The race is timed and the fastest time will of course decide the Ifwinner.you are not afraid of speed and dangerous situations, and you are mentally ready to step in front of the flashbulbs, be grilled by the media, be recognised on the street, be a womanizer and of course a winning racer, then participating in KRuisinKi is the best choice for you.

Excursions are an important part of the Guild's activities. Every autumn and spring, the guild organises excursions to industrial companies to see production and hear about their activities. The courses are an excellent way for students to get in touch with companies in the industry and potential future employers. In the autumn, freshers are taught how to do the course in the form of a traditional fresher excursion. The content of the Fresher excursion is a closely guarded secret and therefore needs to be experienced and witnessed by everyone. Only the duration, one day, will be announced in advance.
Excursions & Kirkkarit
After practising at the Fresher excursion in the autumn, you can put your skills to the test in the legendary Domestic RanKka course in the spring. The tough one lasts several days and culminates at the weekend in Kirkkarit. The Kirkarit is an annual gathering of mechanical engineers. All the Finnish mechanical engineering guilds, apart from us from Oulu, Otaniemi, Turku and Tampere, gather in alternate years in each location to celebrate their friendship. Exceptionally, in 2022, Kirkkarit is planned to take place in Oulu. In addition to the Kirkkaris, the event will include a number of business visits and explorations of other student cities along the way, or alternatively, parties in cities with nothing. Rankka will witness many traditions, as well as wear out the dance floors of nightclubs in several cities. This spectacle is not to be missed.
KRK visiting Jet Steel Oy in spring 2022.

Each year there are also a few "dress up" excurion, where you visit the company during the day and possibly spend an evening with company representatives in the evening. A rarer treat is the abroad Rankka, which takes place every few years.
Things often happen when you travel. There are plenty of stories from the kirkkarit, if you remember anything from the trip.

Best wishes, Ari Holahan
Lastly I’d like to point out the beau tiful scenery in Lappeenranta. I’m sure you will like that the campus is fully surrounded by nature; Trees, flowers and lake Saimaa. Relaxing and taking a little break is important and for that the nature is the the best place, in my opinion at least.
LTKY also runs Aalef’s restaurants Yolo and Laseri as well as the small shop on campus’ main building. You can read about us in more details and see the several services we offer for students on LTKY website (ltky.fi).
Dear Congratulationsnewcomer,on your acceptance to KRK at LUT University! My name is Ari and I would like to welcome you on the behalf of LTKY, the student union of LUT.
Greetings from LTKY
In addition to studying it is very important to have fun, enjoy life, and make a lot of memories while you are here. That’s why I would really recommend paying attention to all the extracurricular activities that LUT, LTKY and the guilds offer and make new friends along the way. From this point of view LUT is the perfect place; The majo rity of students live next to the cam pus or within two kilometer distance, creating lively community, where it is easy to make friends with other in ternational and Finnish students as well.
One of the main tasks of LTKY is to maintain and respect the student culture. At LUT there are nine guilds in total and more than 30 activity and hobby clubs. Finnish student culture is unique and interesting, and I really recommend getting involved in it. I would suggest joining your guild KRK as well as ESN Lappeenranta, where you can find more international students. LTKY also organizes lots of activities and events together with the guilds and clubs.
And to keep informed before and du ring your studies with news and also more humorous stuff, make sure to follow us in our social media! You can find us on Instagram @ltky_ins ta. Welcome to our community, en joy your studies and make memories that will last for a lifetime!
You have probably heard already that the office of LTKY is where you can get the sticker for your student card and enjoy a cup of coffee in the lounge. However, we have a lot more to offer too. The mission on the student union is to make the life of students better. LTKY organizes advocacy and lobbying of the students’ opinion on local and national levels.
