Today is a special occasion for our community as we recognise the achievements and successes of our learners There is so much to celebrate and we thank you for joining us today. Speech Day is not only a chance to reflect on the academic progress of our students, but also to recognise the ongoing journey that they are on as young people. We are proud of their resilience, curiosity, and kindness, and of the individuals they are becoming.
This celebration would not be possible without the amazing efforts of our dedicated staff and encouragement of our parent community. Together, you have helped create a nurturing environment where every child can thrive A special thank you to Ms Michelle and Ms Simy for their hard work and leadership in helping to make today’s event a special one.
As part of our celebration, we are again excited to share a series of student-led presentations under the theme ‘Journey of Feelings: Growing and Thriving Together’ These presentations are a culmination of our learning in PSHE - Personal, Social, Health Education - where learners have explored how to understand and express their emotions, and how to support one another in navigating the complexities of growing up Our children are growing up in a fast-paced and ever-evolving world and it is crucial that we equip them with these skills for the future.
It is a privilege for us to be joined by our Guest of Honour, YM Tunku Alia Nadira binti Tunku Naquiyuddin, and we hope she enjoys our event today. Similarly, a special thank you to Dato’ Brian Law who is with us ahead of his upcoming appointment to our Board of Trustees We are looking forward to working with him more closely in the coming years and I am sure his skills and expertise will greatly benefit the School moving forward.
We are also pleased to welcome Ms Emma Davidson (Director of Sixth Form) and Kesha Menon (KTJ Alumna) to share and celebrate the progess and achievements of our learners. Ms Emma was instrumental in setting up the Primary School in its early years before moving into her leadership roles in the Secondary School It is fitting that she returns as a special guest in her final year at KTJ Our keynote speaker, Kesha, class of 2021, will be sharing her insights on today’s theme and how understanding her emotions has helped her on her learning journey
I hope you enjoy this morning’s showcase of learning and thank you for being part of this celebration. As we look ahead to the new academic year in August, I do so with confidence and excitement, knowing that our students are well on their way to becoming thoughtful, capable, and empathetic individuals.
Kesha joined KTJ in Year 7 (Form 1) in 2014, and graduated from our Upper Sixth in 2021 While in the Sixth Form, she served as Head Prefect. After completing her A Levels, Kesha pursued studies in Anthropology and Law at the London School of Economics and Political Science She now works in Environmental Conservation with the NGO, Hutan, who empower local communities to manage and protect wildlife in Kinabatangan, Sabah
Kesha shared:
“I am so excited to be back at KTJ today to celebrate growing and thriving together, as the School was an integral part of my journey onto adulthood. If there is one thing I learned at KTJ, it is that community is everything and that working together and helping each other helps us become better, kinder people, which is worth its weight in gold”
