KOLEJ TUANKU JA'AFAR GRADUATION CEREMONY

2023

A note from the Principal Dr Glenn Moodie

As A Level examinations draw to a close and our Upper Sixth eke out their final days as school students, I am sure all are experiencing a strange mix of emotions There is the excitement of finally throwing off the shackles of school and moving on to exciting university programmes in the far corners of the world; but at the same time there are the thoughts of leaving behind a place they know well and friends with whom they have shared their lives

Despite this unusual, slightly queasy feeling they may have in the pit of their stomachs, I am sure they will look back fondly on their times at KTJ This is the place where they discovered their passions, where they made lasting decisions about the future direction of their lives, and where they formed friendships which will endure forever.

We are very proud of what they have achieved at KTJ and it has been an absolute privilege to watch them grow and mature - and to be part of their lives

You are all automatically members of the KTJ Alumni Association, but please remember to sign up officially We would be delighted to see what amazing things you do next And, who knows, you may return to KTJ in a few years time to inspire our future Sixth Form students!

Good luck!

A final message from the Head P

This year’s cohort joins millions across the globe to emerg emic Despite all the disruptions of the preceding years, we have the other side Without being too dramatic, it has felt at times gly long forgotten in the hopes of a return to normality KTJ and, m ith superb support, an incredibly conducive learning environment and unforgettable experiences, all of which will be sorely missed.

KTJ encourages students to be meta conscious and to develop an outlook on life that prepares us to question the status quo This constant curiosity for learning enables boundaries to be pushed and innovation to be sparked This equips us to face the “real world” since to be frank we are incredibly privileged to live in such a diverse yet isolated community Nevertheless, it is this separation from our home comforts that lead to friendships forged in classrooms and boarding houses that will stand the test of time and distance We have learnt that to be grounded in community is the best way to grow as an individual, a team player and a productive member of the wider global community.

We have learnt new skills and acquired qualities that have prepared us to stand on our own two feet: maturity, time management, decision making, problem solving, communication and, most importantly, how to use a washing machine There’s a saying that it takes a village to raise a child and it is thanks to the KTJ collective and to our parents that we are where we are today So let us reflect on the year and our time at KTJ and focus on the trials and tribulations that have been overcome, the countless meals shared in the dining hall, but most importantly the family found in our home away from home.
