Welcome
from the Deputy Head of Secondary (overseeing Boarding)

Here at Kolej Tuanku Ja’afar, the boarders constitute the very heartbeat of our school and indeed, the atmosphere that pervades is richer for the presence of our boarding community. While offering a traditional British boarding school model in a Malaysian setting, we are forward thinking in our approach, and while we could never replace the love and care of a student’s home, our boarding houses offer experiences, memories and friendships that are enhanced by the boarding environment. Dedicated house staff are focused on creating a ‘second home’ for our students, making sure our boarding houses are a place of comfort, support and belonging for all who live there.
Our holistic approach to education is rooted in the belief that we should be developing students beyond the bounds of the classroom, allowing them to grow and to prepare for all the opportunities and challenges of life beyond school.
We believe happy students will be successful ones, and therefore we focus on enriching all aspects of our students’ lives, aiding them in their development into confident and well-rounded young adults and global citizens.
Kolej Tuanku Ja’afar is an amazing school, full of happy students who benefit from our diverse pool of teaching experience and the abundance of facilities that sit within our 80-acre site. We are extremely proud of the international boarding provision we provide and are confident that our students are ready to ‘Make it’ in the ever changing global world that awaits them when they leave.

Welcome & Introduction
from the Houseparent of Imran

After graduating from the University of Liverpool, longer ago than I care to remember, I completed my PGCE at Homerton College, Cambridge. After which I taught in both the UK and Australia. My wife, four sons, and I are delighted to have been able to call KTJ home since August 2016. I was initially appointed the Houseparent of Junior Day House when it opened in 2018, and more recently was the Houseparent of the Junior Boys boarding house.
I am genuinely excited now to work with the boys in Imran and continue the wonderful work of my predecessors in ensuring the boys in pink remain a positive and productive force in KTJ and beyond.
I am a keen sportsman with a particular passion for rugby union, although I have hung up my boots I can still be found on the ‘top field’ coaching. As an avid cycle tourist I most recently I rode from Thailand to Johor Bahru along the Western coast of Peninsular Malaysia, with my eldest son. This ride was preceded by an unsupported 4000km journey through central Australia from tropical Darwin to chilly Melbourne, all in aid of World Bicycle Relief. My next adventure is still pending, but I have a few ideas!

Welcome
from the House Captain

Hi, my name is Kenji and I am the new Imran House Captain.
My time here in KTJ is nothing short of pure and genuine happiness. KTJ especially Imran has become my home as I do not live in Malaysia. My home will become our home, and I will strive to make Imran a core memory for everyone. A place where we are all bound by the same experiences. A place where our success will be measured by the memories we make. There are plenty of opportunities in which the boarding life provides. From house events and co-curriculars to inter-house competitions. Imran will of course provide you the warm and supportive environment for you to strive both personally and academically. I think I would not have grown as much without being in the presence of Imran, we have a supportive community that follows you and cheers you on in every step of your journey. Welcome to Imran and be sure to make yourselves at home!

Welcome to Imran house! My name is Jesse. I teach swimming in the Primary and Secondary School. I have been with KTJ for over 15 years. I was born and raised in this lovely town, Mantin. I like sports, especially swimming and basketball. Sometimes, I go hiking too. During the school holiday, I enjoy spending time with my family at home and traveling around Malaysia.
I am glad to be the Resident Tutor in Imran house. The house spirit is so strong and all the students are brothers to each other. I always enjoy watching the boys cheering and supporting each other in the inter house competitions. I feel grateful to be part of the house of the pink panther!

Hi! I am Ms Eileen and I come from Ireland originally, although I moved to London as a teenager to undertake my studies at King’s College. I graduated in 2000 and worked as an intensive care specialist nurse at King’s College Hospital before marrying Mr David and emigrating to Australia. There I continued to work in health care. After moving to Malaysia in 2016, I initially joined KTJ as a Learning Assistant in the Primary School, supporting students who are now in the Upper Sixth! After this I worked as a Patient Liaison Officer for KPJ, Ampang but I am really looking forward to rejoining the KTJ workforce in the role of House Coordinator.

Hi, my name is Conor, and I studied BA Geography at the University of Portsmouth, before graduating in 2013 and joining the Metropolitan Police Service. Based in Central London as a police constable for seven years, I worked as an emergency response officer and as a domestic violence investigator on the safeguarding unit. In 2020, I decided to change my career and become a teacher. In my spare time, I enjoy watching and playing rugby as well as supporting the mighty Luton Town FC. I regularly visit my brother in London and family in the Republic of Ireland. I am very excited to join the Imran Boarding Team, and can’t wait to see what fantastic things our House achieves this year.
