Careers Fair 2023

#KTJInspiringFutures

Introduction

On behalf of the Careers Fair team, I would personally like to invite you all to this year’s big event. I am sure that you will join me in welcoming 17 guest speakers, who have kindly agreed to spend their Saturday morning sharing their invaluable experiences with you. In fact, 16 of them used to be students here at KTJ!

As a Form 5 or Lower 6 student, you have some big decisions on your horizon. Whether it be choosing your A-Level subjects for next year or finalising which university courses you are going to apply to, these decisions are better made when you have explored options, gathered information and listened to the advice of experts.

What do YOU aspire to do with your life, beyond school?

It’s a tough question! My hope is that this Careers Fair will provide you with an opportunity to be inspired by the journeys of others and perhaps get a little bit closer to answering that question for yourself. This programme contains a personal profile for each of the guest speakers – an insight into the presentations they will give. Please read through all of them carefully, then decide which talks you would like to attend.

A reminder that if you are in Form 5, you are expected to attend four talks. Lower 6 students must attend at least three talks (but you can attend all four if you wish). You can use one of the sessions to go to the Arc and research university courses instead.

Finally, I would like to share some advice of my own so that you can prepare for the event effectively and get the most out of the experience on the day.

• Research your speakers – read their profiles, find out more information online (e.g. company website or LinkedIn) and write down some interesting questions you would like to ask them.

• Be inquisitive – after each talk, the speakers will give you an opportunity to ask them questions, so demonstrate your curiosity and get involved in the discussion.

• Be respectful – arrive promptly to all of the sessions, listen carefully during them and say thank you when you leave.

• Represent KTJ – wear your school uniform (jackets and ties not required), be proud of our school and demonstrate the KTJ values at all times.

I look forward to seeing you all on the day. Don’t forget that there will be a final session, with all speakers and students in attendance, from 11.15 to 11.45 in the Auditorium.
