Sammons Financial Group Sioux Falls, South Dakota Culture Sammons’ Sioux Falls operations are life insurance based with a culture characterized by interest in training, wellness, collaboration, security, and tradition. The design responds with an open plan organized around a central circulation spine – offering opportunities for chance collaboration – which connects the single building entry (security) with the café and flexible meeting spaces (training and identity) and the outdoor patio (wellness).

Sammons Financial Group Sioux Falls, South Dakota Cost Control The Sammons organization is focused on controlling both first and operational costs. First Cost control is exemplified by a building construction cost of $132/sf including everything but furniture. The building skin is precast concrete “tilt-up” panels and high efficiency glass. Interiors are straight forward with a focus on the central spine and café.

Sammons Financial Group Sioux Falls, South Dakota Growth and Flexibility The layout is designed to accommodate up to 50% expansion of staff over time. As departments grow and are restructured, the raised floor system and associated modular power, communications, and HVAC components ease the transition. A 5’ grid is used throughout the plan to allow for easy reconfiguration.

Operating Cost control is evident in the buildings’ energy efficiency – currently operating at 50-55% compared to similar structures. This is accomplished with an open loop geothermal system (tied into the ponds which also provide for storm water management), displacement ventilation (utilizing the floor plenum), and radiant heating and cooling. The 5’ ceiling grid allows for the cost effective use of 2x4 radiant panels, leaving a 12” zone for indirect/direct lighting fixtures with daylighting controls. Productivity is up in the new facility due to the comfort, controllability of environment, natural light and views.
