The Jewett Brothers Warehouse was constructed in 1899 and served as a grocery warehouse for 71 years before a plumbing supply store and other adaptive uses. It was added to the Register of Historic Places as a contributing building within the Warehouse Historic District in Sioux Falls in 1973 and sat vacant for many years until the building was purchased for renovation in 1992. At that time, the local area was home to abandoned buildings, polluted sites from local rail and industry activities and frequented by the City’s homeless population. The firm who purchased, renovated and has inhabited the building since 1993 gave their 6,240 sf space a fresh look and feel.

The 20-person architectural firm utilizes three conference rooms and various collaboration spaces for formal and informal gatherings.

The project consisted of updated finishes and shortened workspace walls, also highlights such as exposing the stone entrance and installing glass walls at the conference rooms. Lighting was upgraded to LED with general lighting levels cut in half (against the advice of the electrical engineer) with the provision of task lighting at work stations.

Removal of the reception desk made room for a harvest table which serves as an informal client meeting area, coffee bar and Monday morning staff breakfast and meeting space to kick-off the week.

(16) 8-foot tall second floor windows provide great viewing spaces for an annual parade on the Friday after Thanksgiving, where friends, families and clients are invited to a lively party to view local artwork, enjoy local music and watch the parade. The long lobby serves as event space where local emerging artists are invited to showcase their work for the month of December after the Parade of Lights opening reception.
