before Originally constructed in 1957, the Howard Wood press box and grand stand accommodates 10,000 fans along with players, coaches and press members. The Minnesota Vikings played their first game at Howard Wood, an exhibition against the Dallas Cowboys in 1961. The field has a reputation for a professional feel that enhances sports drama and each year regional sports teams duke it out for local bragging rights. The new press box provides a greatly improved user experience for coaches and media, a covered accessible seating area and enhanced gravitas for the Howard Wood Field facility.

Precast concrete was utilized to compress the construction schedule and provide structure for the stair towers which serve as giant columns to support the press box clearspan.

The press box structure is designed to anchor the existing 10,000 seat grandstand. Stair towers are placed at each end of the press box to increase its presence and apparent mass. Subtle textural and color changes are used to reinforce solidity while the layout of window openings creates a sense of permeability and transparency.
