Howard Wood Press Box Sioux Falls, SD
before Howard Wood Field has become a beloved sports venue in Sioux Falls. Built in 1957 as the premiere football and track and field facility in the region, local high schools and colleges played out their rivalries and developed yearly matchups and fundraising events. The Minnesota Vikings played their first game at the stadium as an exhibition against the Dallas Cowboys in 1961. After fifty years, Howard Wood received a modern facelift complete with pressbox, locker rooms and seating.

The pressbox is designed to balance the weight and proportion of the 10,000 seat grandstand through mass, horizontality and clean lines. Stair towers are incorporated at each end expanding the width of the press box to increase its presence and weightiness. Subtle textural and color changes are used to reinforce its solidity while the layout of window openings creates a sense of permeability and transparency. Seating is now wheel chair accessible at the top of the grandstand and more comfortable with a special covered area beneath the pressbox.
