The Student Christian Center is located in Ratchathewi, Bangkok, beside the BTS station. It contains dormitory, chapel and student center. Its old condition and inappropriate site planning making it uninviting to the public and inappropriate for the students who live there. The renovation takes place by preserving the old structure and respecting its legacy, both tangible and intangible.

The concept is emphasizing and upgrading the Legacy, which is Opportunities, of this place through the usage of spatial environment, design language and new programs. Therefore, a new definition of this place is given as “Educational park” which comes from the one of the main objectives of this place, giving additional education, plus the existing characteristic of this place, being a green spot in the city. New programs that support education are added such as Bio-lab, urban farming, wetland, etc. Those programs are all related to ecosystem to provide a connection between the program and the green image in the site.

The landscape design is changed to curve to create a flow circulation, almost like walking in the forest. The green scenery is also integrated into all the buildings to maintain the same environment.

To conclude this place is aimed to be a real urban oasis where people can come in to enjoy while still gain knowledge from the provided facilities. Louver facade are introduced in order to provide privacy for the dormitory while maintaining the connection to the landscape.

The renovation of the Student Christian Center is taken place by replacing the old stage into a Glass box which is a multipurpose hall. It can be used for concert, conference, orientation day, etc. To preserve and promote the artworks from both inside and outside the center, the semi-outdoor gallery is provide beside the Galss box. On the second floor, programs for teenagers including music room, workshop room and lounges

For the design, the closed-facing street wall is now removed results in a big open area inviting people to go inside. The change of material on the floor creates a transition space and also forms a pre-function space for the Glass box.

CHAPEL The new Ecunemical chapel is a completely new building placed in the landscape. It’s curve shape flows and integrates smoothly along the landscape design.

The concept is given as “Sit and Rest” as the louver envelope completely covered up the building blocking the visual connection between exterior and interior except for the opened lower part which will invite people to sit in order to enjoy the outside green space. Moreover, natural elements like water and light are allowed to penetrate into the interior creating a peaceful environment. Moreover, a spiral ramp around the Chapel allows the visitors the go up and enjoy a nice landscape on a high view point.

A new dormitory features the units that are placed on the upper floor while the groundfloor is used for public program. The units are composed of 3 student unit types including disabled units, the owner’s unit and staff units. The circulation for the staff and the owner is separated from the main stair. The elevator is provided to support the disabled and emergency cases.

Green spaces are integrated inside the building along the corridors, terraces and rooftop to create a better environment and ventilation. Co-Working spaces for the students are also provided.

THE INTERVAL

This project focuses on providing the needs for the client, Mr. Nob Prateepasen, who works as the musician. Inspired by his carreer, the design derived from the analyse of the note of Pachelbel’s Canon, his favourite song, which has been transformed into the architectural form. Interval is the keyword of this project which was used as the tool for creating the form.

The concept is to apply the space between the beats(notes) of each instrument in music as the interval between each space/room in the house. The space or the interval between the beats are the empty space that will occur when many instruments are played together with different speed of beats while it will disappear if the instrumentals are played at the same speed.

Since intervals are the main concept, some strategies are used to emphasize them. Including: 1. The interval’s floor level is lower than normal floor level.

2. it’s wall is cladded with wood while normal is white.

3. It is where wind, rain and light penetrate into the house to connect with the house with the nature.

THE FOLD

The site belongs to Mr. Traiphop Limpraphat. This project is about designing the local market for his famous TV program, Krua Khun Toi. The design concerns about his perspectives toward the market including market is a kind of exhibition, need green spaces and connection with local people which become keywords that frame the design of this project. The form was created from the art of Bai-Tong folding which is a thing that was commonly used to cover the food for selling in a market. However, people, nowadays, seem to forget that important culture and use modern utilities, instead. Therefore, this project aims to show people the beauty and importance of this culture through the architectural form. To suite the 3 keywords, the building form will act as exhibition center of Bai-Tong folding art while providing some multipurpose spaces for community meeting and also a lot of green spaces.

The form will show the hidden shape that is secretly hide in the fold’s creases. All types of banana leaf’s folding patterns are analysed to find crease modules.

Situated on Tha Din Deang road, a new condominium targets on a user group of Gen X and Y designers. “Viewpoint + Gallery” is the concept for this project. The viewpoint aims is to take the advantages of the Chao Phraya river’s scenery as much as possible while also maintaining the focus on a huge Bodhi tree in the site. The gallery comes from the need of exhibition spaces for the designers. The facade comes from the street grid’s characteristic of Tha Din Deang resulting in a faceted facade design.

The site surroundings show that the city view from the South is not so appreciated. Therefore, the arrangement of the unit becomes single-loaded corridor where every units will face toward the river on the North. The passive design such as stack ventilation, skylight, and vertical green are used to create an environmental friendly building.

This project is located beside Rama 8 bridge. It is the community and art center for both local and other people including foreigners. The aim of this project is to connect the local communities and also people from other places together via art and provided activity spaces. The design tries to capture nice views of the bridge and the river.

The concept is about reducing the strong impact of Rama VIII bridge.

According to the section, the height of the bridge, compared to the neighborhood buildings, is so high that it is overcoming them.

Therefore, the connecting line is created from the top of the bridge down to the height of the surrounding houses. The line is curve line as it creates smoother connection to the surrounding. Then, the building is created along the curve.

Moreover, the tail of the building will be splited into 3 sections. These sections are created from the connecting lines drawn from the entrance of each community (Ban Poon, Wat Dao and Wat Phraya Siri Iysawan). It will create an inviting environment allowing them to intrude into the building.

Another project which is situated beside Chao Phraya river. The site is located on Charoen Nakorn road, not far from Krung Thonburi BTS station. There are 2 communities on each side of the site. One of them is an old neighborhood with a temple and school while another one has a more modern housing designs.

A capacity of the arena is 2,000 seats. An environment of this area is pretty quite and lack of people which is contrast to its close surrounding such as Yannawa riverfront, Creative district, BTS, etc. are lively and full of people. This idea inspires the concept which aims to increase the liveliness of this area using “Activation“ keyword by bringing people in the communities to meet up with each other and also with other new people such as tourists and foreigners. In order to accomplish the concept, 2 methods are used including: Linkage axis strategy The 2 main linkage axises are created according to the accesses in the site.

Building form strategy The form comes from the ant colony where there are chambers which are linked by passages. It can help activating the site since various programs will be distributed around the site and linked together creating interaction and connection.

The aim is to create a Learning Park for both tourists and local childrens in high and low season respectively. the programs include cafe + workshop in high season and library + playground in low season.

The design is created from the analysis of sight line when people approach to the site. It leads people to see the old shophouse roofscape and programs from the entrance until they reach the back of the site. The curve line comes from the idea of bringing a sense of river into the site since this town was a port in the past which dealed

a lot with the river, but now that feature is gone. Moreover, there is a dredge painting in the site. Therefore, some part of the dredge’s mechanic, so called “top tumbler” is integrated into the design to create a stronger language. The partitions in the site use the mechanic of the tumbler, which is rotating, making them become flexible space to suit those changing programs through the seasons.

The roof design plays along the zig-zag roofscape of the surrounding shophouses. There is also a mezzanine floor allowing people to go up and enjoy the view from above.

The second partition type, placed at the back, is rotated in Y axis. When lifted down, it will form a boundary for workshop space. When lifted up, the mezzanine floor is created while the ground will be a huge open space.

This research focuses on unearthing the extraordinary spaces which are hidden inside the typical shophouses in Bangkok. The interested area is in Predibanomyong road because it contains various types of shophouses. We focus on the analysis of space organization in those buildings. The fact is that those dwellers can utilize the space so efficiency.

Every inches of the spaces are used to maximum from floor to ceiling. This condition occurs from the compact space which cannot hold all the stuffs they have. So, they need to

come up with a new way of organizing the spaces. One of the most interesting spaces are the Hybrid shophouses. They look like plain house from the front, but in there, they are rebuilt and extended the space into something else. They are more than normal shophouses. We will show you 2 examples of them in the next pages.

Original structure

This shophouse or garage hybrid is located on the left of the Koo-hah or shopehouse block. The front part is utilized as a motocycle repair shop while the extended part is a small block used for storage. It is connected to the main strructure only on the ground floor. Its second floor can be accessed by unbelievable steep staircase.

This shophouse shows a stunning h ybridization between house and industry shop. The front part is just an ordinary woodshop, but what awaits inside is an unexpected huge extended structures which turn this place into a compact industry.

The shophouse contains 3 structure types including cconcrete on the front part, wood on the middle and steel o n the back part. Those structures and the furniture are so m essy t hey become beauty and essence of the place.

10 Located between 2 different cityscapes, one with small and short buildings and another with large and tall appearance. Therefore, the design focuses on adjusting the new building size to match with these cityscapes by separating it into many smaller volumes. Moreover, the heights of each volume are also determined according to the height of the surrounding buildings. This will create a flow of city's skyline and smooth connection to the surrounding. For the target users, elders are chosen since the research shows that 25% of

people in Kashiwa are Baby boomers (54-72 years old) and 23% are Generation X (39-53 years old). This means that Kashiwa will turn into aging society soon. Hence, the programs in the buildings will accommodate those elders. For example, assembly room which hosts physical and mental training, outdoor sunken garden for exercising and resting, and library.

Therefore, the new p urpose is t o give i t a modern t wist, f ixing the atmosphere, making i t more v ibrant and enjoyable to i nvite the young generations t o come h ere. I t will f ocus on r edesigning t he

circulation by relocating the car circulation and emphasizing more on the pedestrian path and s afety. The b uilding is s plited i nto an arrangement of many m asses creating the visual c onnection t o all buildings which host different programs, so that the customers can see all of them.

The competition focused on creating a new mixed housing for Koliwada people which located in an undeveloped area of Mumbai.

The aim is to reduce the gap of the discrimination between koliwada and the Mumbai urban.

It’s a great challenge for the people who move into the city and the young local adults whose family is expanding, to settle down in a place; especially at the center of city like Mumbai. With the hope of providing new opportunities, enhancing the co-living condition, we proposed a residence which is both socially and economically activated. The building contains commercial units at the ground floor, providing the new settlers with business opportunities, while be able to create an interaction with the local (Koliwada) through businesses

and outdoor public activities which has been integrated into provided green and open spaces.

The housing block is composed of 4 units types with a central open courtyard as a shared-public area for neighbours gathering. This open area is also allowing natural sunlight and ventilation through each living units creating a home welcoming atmosphere. The patios on the second floor act as transition before entering the units.The business area is located below each unit allowing first floor area to be an interactive area between people, socially and economically.

Each unit contains bedroom, bathroom, kitchen, storage or net repairing room, living room and religious room.

This project is about humanitarian village that can be assembled in a short time in a crisis scenario. This “village� must be prepared to respond for a medical, education and security issues.

Our purpose focuses on Thailand’s disaster. Thailand has continually suffered from great floods caused by large amount of rain which cannot be drained out in time. Moreover, the Southern part especially the ones which are closed to Andaman Sea were suffered from Indian Ocean Tsunami in the past. These disasters caused shortage of food and shelter for people who got hit by them. Therefore, our objective of this village is to protect local people and tourists from these natural disasters. The village design will rise above the ground with a large supporting pillar. The pillar is designed to be an oval form that

stands perpendicularly to the water flow to reduce the impact from the Tsunami. Each living unit can contain 4 individuals. They are attached to the pulley systems. These units are placed along the ground waiting for the people to come inside, when they are filled, they will be lifted up to the top. This design will reduce the time to get inside the village since each person can immediately get in their units and then go up straight. Each unit are connected to the main center which has gathering spot, medical center and sanitary facilities for them. The village has 2 floors, the lower part contains the units and main center, while the upper part contains refectory, space for the volunteers, warehouse, helicopter landing for transporting needed stuffs. This village will be placed in risk areas which have Tsunami and great flood in the Southern part of Thailand.
